Went to an estate sale about 20 blocks away from home and pulled these from the house... There was also a Kirby Heratige II, a taken-apart Regina Electrik Broom, a Shop Vac, and a newer Hoover Quick Broom that I left behind. It was a small house, I was surprised as to how many vacuums this woman had -- she could have been one of us!

So, when we got home yesterday from running all sorts of errands, I tore into the Hoover Special in the first picture. I could tell right away that it was a Special find, indeed.

It turned out to be just gorgeous! The bag was FULL and the spring holding the bag up had gotten super stretched out... But I gave it a good once-over, that's all it needed! And voila!

Presenting the Hoover Special model 700!

Wow that is fantastic Fred, what a find, it is in such a great condition too. I must say I seem to be adding more and more Hoovers to my collection as the days go buy to

I would assume this means it was rebuilt in April of 1953 -- which is why the round Hoover logo appeared on the front nameplate. I don't think Hoover offered rebuilt machines much later than 1953/1954; the model 634 would have been introduced around this time and been offered as the lower-price option.
