Thank you for taking a close-up of the manufacturing plate, James. Interesting how it is stamped "230" in two locations. Once after the voltage, and again on the black background. It looks as if the plug might have been added on for U.K. current?

Yikes, id sure hate to get a shock from that thing! I bet vacuuming a wet surface with it is not a good idea.

Helo.i really like the collections page on this site.i dont know if i may say website names on here but there was a similer kirby listed on a site www.ic.co.za i dont know if its this one you bought!im a vacuum cleaner freak!!i have 5 vacuums dont know if i can call it vintage,but 4 of them are older than me!i like that vintage upright Eurekas and the Electro Hygienes but i never see such old vacuums in south africa!one of you guys had a Bison vacuum on your collection pages i cant seem to find any information on them on the internet.are they still made and sold?thanx u guys are great!and your vacuums are beautifull!

Hi Ruan, Did know there was a vacuum cleaners. What vacs u got?
I can't remember where I got it from. some 1 told me about it so I asked if they would sell it to me in the UK.

So what vacuums have u got? have you seen any other old kirbys in south Africa?

Hi james.thats the oldest kirby i have ever seen in South-Africa.i Have a Electrolux model Z170, then ive got a Electrolux Model Z302,an Hoover model u4006 and an premiere Products Mini,Made in Cheltenham England.a Kirby Legend II but thats a 1989 or 90 Model.then i have a Hoover Shampoo Polisher.it seems to me that South-Africa only got electric vacuum cleaners in the late 60's?heres an antique dealer where i once saw a Baby daizy vacuum cleaner.it has bellows with a long handle to operate the bellows and then the extension pipes in front.but they didnt want to sell it.Sorry for talking about other vacuums on this topic but the collections on this site is fascinating.

Yes i do have pics of me and my Collection,im 22 Years old now and ive got my first vacuum Cleaner (the z302) When i was 12 years old.the 302 and the 170 was my grandmothers, the 302 burnt out but i had the field coils rewound.im always on the lookout for other vacuum cleaners on ebay,but i dont know what the costs will be to import it to South-Africa.i almost forgot i also have a Columbus B11 floor polisher
