A quick group photo of Perivale's finest!

I keep a lot of my cleaners in storage, and I think it'll be time for a swap around soon. I've currently got all my 1334/1346 type Juniors in the flat, and so I wanted to get a group photo of them all, which I've never done before. I know that there were only four kinds of this cleaner available in the USA, so I though that you guys might be interested to see my eleven machines - even though the collection isn't complete yet!

L-R: 1970 1346A, c1958 1334, c1967 1346, 1976 U1034 Exclusive, 1975 1354A, 1968 1346, c1964 1334A, 1976 U1012, 1967 1334E, 1976 1346A 'Challenge' mail order exclusive, 1974 1346A.

Thanks for posting the pic.. it's very interesting to see them all in a group shot. I haven't run across a Junior yet other than about 20 years ago at a flea market, a very old black bagger. I picked it up and found it was UK 220v and put it down again fool that I was then.

The black bag Junior was probably a 375 - I'm pretty sure these were built for the Canadian market, but wouldn't swear to it.

The 1354A was sold in Canada for sure (but not the USA), so that's definitely one to look out for! It was built in the UK, but had a 105v motor.

Jr.'s with headlights

I have to ask, knowing that the front panel on the Jr's come off for the attachment connection. Did the Jr.'s with the headlights do the same???
I just now questioned that, having never seen (in person) a
jr. with a headlight??

Dirtsearchers...

Yup the tools attach in the same way, the lamp housing is connected with a plug/socket arrangement. Below is a pic of a VERY unusual 1346A I recently aquired. Im in 2 minds if its a rebuild or a very rare exclusive version!

Take a look at ebay item number 330058123349 - I though it was a U1012 at first, but look at the length of the bag! There was a simliarly coloured 1354A on recently too in Deutschland (with a red on silver roundel too, like a late 427), although that doesn't explain your machine of course.

Its June 73, the height adjuster is red but it has an orange switch button. The bag is much brighter than it looks in the pic and is of the correct design-the front cover looks the same as the one on my late brown/coffee U1012.

It just looks too good to be a recon lol- Its defiantly the only one ive seen like it !!!!!-ive added a close up of the bag

Norm...I have seen the light cover come off. Jeff Parker has one. The cover simply plugs into the machine. It really is a snap. Then the tools connect the same way as the US version. I am surprised that Hoover never marketed more versions of this cleaner in the US. They are a good machine with the famous triple action cleaning.

Si, thanks for sharing, that is quite a nice collection of Juniors! I have to say that my favorites are the Dirtsearcher models; I think that is so ingenious how the connection for the headlight works, and how the cover can still be removed.

Hi Scott, do you have a 220v supply you can use or do you use a converter etc??, this was the model my Nan bought after her trusty goblin cylinder finally died, and all her daughters went out and bought them as well as the local "Electricity Board Shop , MANWEB, had a special offer, vac & tools for £27.oo pounds

The Dirtsearchers...

I've enclosed a photo of the 1346A and 1354A without their cover plates on, so you can see the difference. On the 1354A, the brass prongs to connect the bulb to the power outlet under the rating sticker are just to the left of the lamp housing.

The dirtsearcher cover plates are a bit more fiddly to fit than the standard cleaner - there's a definite knack to it!

Mike, the brown Dirtsearcher is a U1016 (not a U1012 like I said at the top of the thread!). They were a standard European model (although mine *is* a German maket machine), but are very rare - I suspect that most people would have gone for a Starlight instead, and I think they were replaced by the U2068 Junior Deluxe around late 1977 - up until then, Dirtsearchers were sold as the Junior Deluxe from what I know.

Si...thanks for the lesson on how to install the fan cover. The one with the light does look tricky. Was the light itself fairly trouble free or did they go through bulbs? These units look so well put together. They really are nice machines. Thanks for the pics!
