Why was the red model M made?

I’ve seen multiple badge variations of it, and I know they made the polished and painted versions of M60-61-61A. The serial numbers of this and later polished one I had do overlap which leads me to believe they were made at the same time. One for DTD and one for stores maybe?IMG_6829.jpegIMG_6824.jpegIMG_6825.jpegIMG_6828.jpegIMG_6827.jpegIMG_6826.jpeg

Maybe one was top of the line and the other a lower tier model. But if that is the case, why do they both have the model M designation? One example of the different tiers being so similar is the Hoover models 29 and 62 of the early 50's. Basically the same cleaner, with the only differences being the color scheme, and the 62 used Handisacs, where the 29 had a shake-out bag, and there was (if I remember right) a $20 price difference between the two.

I’m not sure that’s it, as when these were made they were also selling the G/G2 and the R. I believe also the straight suction model K as well for commercial use
