A possible g series successor.

So a few years back the patents for a crazy looking Kirby concept vacuum was found and from what I can remember there was only one or two basic drawings of the machine, I was looking at vacuum patents and came across the patent for its removeable handle, the patent includes pictures of how the hose attachments and shampooer will be connected and the biggest update a sebo style brushroll that hooks in to an independent brushroll motor(that may have been shown on a different page). The latest patent to this new machine was in 2014 for the sebo style brushroll. Now I have 20 some years going against this prediction but I believe,after seeing the number of patents on this design,this is the future of Kirby. It might be the next release or they might try to get 30 years out of the g series platform. Either way,this things awesome!

I don't think the machine in those drawings will ever become a reality. The main reason is that it is way too complex with too many things that can go wrong.


 


The current G series machines are of a much simpler design that is very reliable, but if something does go bad, it is a very simple design and easy to work on with just a couple of screw drivers and perhaps a pair of pliers to aid in the removal of the fan.

I don't believe that's any more complicated really than the current Kirby setup. Kirby's have an extremely high retail price so complicated things like this to produce really would still fit inside the price bracket.

The separate DC brush roller motor would be a great addition.
I've had conversations with other collectors saying that Kirby could add that.
Kirby ever does redesign their vacuums this would be an interesting place to start a redesign of the G Series is overdue by 30 years!

I agree with sptyks. The thing is just too complex as designed. And the more complex you make something, the easier it is to break. My guess is that if it were actually to go into production, what we'd see would be very much simplified, incorporating only a small subset of the features shown in the document. I guess one could argue that by patenting all those different features, they got a lot of bang for their buck by having one patent for a fairly comprehensive slate of features.

Personally, the DC motor for the brush roll doesn't excite me much because it requires a circuitboard, which is really just a self-destruct mechanism in disguise. That represents a slippery slope that I would hate to Kirby slide down.

I can only hope KIRBY will come out with a complete redisgn. Because lets be honest, how many of us are getting tired of a sentria but with a different color. As I'm typing I do have a few questions. Say KIRBY does goes down this rout and we get the designs thats in the pictures, my question is will kirby continue the MSSS with the new redisign shampooer? Like will the new shampooer include brushes to clean floors, scrubs tiles and polish floors? What Id like to see happen is KIRBY work on the acoustics and make the unit more quieter, because lets be honest, using the current G series on hard surface floor is so loud that you could probably wake the neighbors down the street.

The current design ----WORKS!!!!!!Lets just stick with it until something comes out that is better.The vacuum shown in the drawings is indeed to complex-would be HARDER for customers to use and more Rube Goldberg parts to fail.I do like the idea of the powernozzle for the canister mode.Use my Volt with my Kirbys for fun.The USELESS combo floor tool HAS TO GO!!!Replace it with a REAL bare floor tool and REAL carpet tool or the powernozzle as a possible option.and if Kirby electrified their hose-you could use a real powered hand tool with it.By the way--interesting a Zipbrush came with my Red trim Avalir.One did not come with the Blue Avalir.the Zipbrush is really the only air powered hand tool that works.The powernozzle could fit in areas where the upright floor nozzle won't such as under beds and furniture.

I don't think Kirby needs a ground-up redesign when they do such a good job with the machine they're making. You could call the current machine a Classic with a different color bag, or even a 500-series. From the beginning, they've been refined but never completely transformed and they don't seem to need it to perform well. Changes I'd truly welcome would be sound suppression and DEFINITELY a decent hard floor brush, whose absence I can't understand at all at such a high price.

(BTW, I've always thought the Electrolux (Aerus) upright should include the floor brush in the tool kit, as well. The hose and wands that are standard attachments would allow it to be used as a canister on hard floors, which would work a lot better than just running the upright over the floor with the brush deactivated. This is especially true since Electrolux upgraded the suction motor quite a few years ago.)
