Right on the nose, Mark...ON...THE...NOSE! This is my latest addition/restoration. I always like to add a little new blood to my 8Track family...Don't want to get no Cyclopes - DON'T YA KNOW!

Excellent 8 track "cart" repair job.You would be good at doing NAB broadcast carts.Pads was one of the things,besides the tape that wore out in those.Since you can easily open the cases of NAB carts replacement of the "guts" was fairly easy.After rebuilding and splicing the carts you would have the tape lube on your fingers.Wash your hands afterward or that lube gets on anything and hard to get off!The station where I rebuilt carts obtained the tape in bulk-I ordered it come to think of it-same with the pads and splice tape.Since broadcast carts used cue tones recorded on the tape-foil tape wasn't used.The pinch rollers were in the machine.Did you replace the pinch roller in your "cart",too?

Sadly,cart machines have just about disappeared from radio stations-they want to use those computer touch screen studio systems for storing commercials,songs,and promos.But is there a backup in case the system crashes?It WILL crash-the question is WHEN?Other things of course that have disappeared from radio stations-live music programs,RR tape machines and Turntables along with record boards or racks full of records.Even AM transmitters are now solid state and have switching power supplies.Encountered a 1Kw AM solid state Transmitter that took up only half of astandard rack.Usual size is about that of a home fridge for one with tubes.You can now get SS 50Kw AM-and even larger--and SS TV,FM transmitters.I still like the ones that glow in the dark-just easier to fix.Least have an idea how long transmitting tubes last.But with SS the device could last 20 years or only 2 weeks-you just don't know.
