I did something Saturday that I haven't done in a long time -- came home with a shipload of vacuum cleaners!

I went back to the vac shop to hunt around for a brush roller for the "Super Janitronic 560." The guy I got the machine from said they had some various sizes of Kirby brush rolls. Dared I hope to find a Super-Sweep size?!

Well, that turned out to be a bum-steer, which was a disappointment especially after a heart-pounding moment when I saw what appeared to be a very long brush roll in a box of other brush rolls. It was sticking up much higher than the other ones. I rushed over to the box and pulled the brush roll out. It was a standard later-500-series version, only sticking out so high because it was kinda wedged into the box and not touching the bottom of it. Darn.

But I did come home with a nice assortment of "consolation prices" -- everything you see in the photos cost me exactly nothing!

HOOVER MODEL 28. Cleaner than it looks -- see bottom of machine. Has original cord, needs a brush roll & bag.

There was another Model 28 way back in a corner under a deep, low shelf. I tried and tried and TRIED to grasp it but it was just an inch out of reach. The guy said he thinks he has the original bag for it around there somewhere; if he finds it he'll let me know.

KIRBY D50. Negligible condition, rescued to use as a parts donor. Lightbulb housing broken.

ROYAL DELUXE POWER TEAM. Good condition, needs clean-up. Need attachments & wands. I have a retracting cord winder for it.

VITA-VAC. Good condition. Motor unit, need hose & attachments.

EUREKA older chrome motor hood. Excellent condition.

EUREKA complete Cordaway set, including the original cord, that works great. I'm going to put it on the Eureka Vibra Groom (see below).

EUREKA & HOOVER Convertible bags -- both in nice shape with good zippers.

Not depicted are a couple of machines I got from there last week -- a beautiful Eureka Vibra-Groom upright loaded with chrome, and two turquoise Hoover convertibles that will come together into one good machine.

Now all of a sudden I have a bunch of vacuum cleaner projects -- these machines here as well as some other pending things including the "Super Janitronic 560," a Kenmore "Bugeye" Imperial, a Eureka Challenger, a Eureka Model 9, and Lord-Only-Knows what else!

I will say, though, if I find a brush roll for the "Super Janitronic 560," that's going to the top of the Spa Treatment list!

Charles...

Are you planning on restoring the 28, if so I might have an extra brown bag for it..since you were so kind to me for the Kirby parts...

The price was right!!!Esp for that Royal Power team!!!Have a Vita Vac,too-was a trade in towards a Meile-mine doesn't run-bet its the cord-haven't opened it yet to find out.I figure on these not a whole lot to go wrong-cord,switch,motor.Those other vacs could fix up--or use 'em for parts!Good trade in pile!

Tolivac, I'd be careful using 'the price is right', vacuumland doesn't need legal trouble! I always say, 'the price is not wrong'!! I'm going on the show if Royals and Vita-vacs are today's showcase!!

I had some time to putter around in the garage today.

I tried out the Royal Power Team first -- OMG the suction is incredible! It'll be fun to find the attachments for it so I can actually use it. Down side: Has a case of wet doggie smell. I removed and threw away the cloth bag and filters; will get new ones and will clean off and deodorize as much of the inside as I can. If I can't get rid of the smell I'll give the machine away.

btw I also found an automatic cord winder from an older-model Royal that will fit the machine and really "trick it out."

One thing I don't like about it: I wish the attachment caddy was removable. (Well, I mean removable with digging out the rivets that hold it in place.) To me it looks awkward and ungainly with it on; it would look much sleeker and more streamlined without it, especially with the cord winder. I may end up removing it and replacing the rivets with tiny sheet-metal screws just to fill in the holes left behind.

Then I tried the Vita-Vac. Frankly I was a bit disappointed in the suction, especially for a motor rated 9 amps. It just seemed wimpy, especially following the Royal that, as Hans Craig would say, "will suck dry paint right off the wall!"

Charles, if you didn't have a hose attached, there is a poor seal of suction over the inlet. They usually have respectable suction.

John, that may have been the problem. I did not attach a hose, just held my hand over the suction opening. I do have an Air-Way Model 88 with all the attachments; I can use them with the Vita-vac just for fun even though they won't match. OTOH, turquoise attachments might look nice with the VV's black finish!

Electrolux137, the Epic 8000 i bought at the Salvation Army smelled a bit worse than wet doggy. It was closer to wet pasture. In my case, I took the motor out of the vac, removed the brushes, brush housing and fields, and soaked the fan and field in a mixture of hot water and orange cleaner (from Zep Products, found at Home Depot) for three hours. Everything was rinsed thoroughly, blown out with compressed air and allowed to air out for a week in the hot California sunshine. Now it smells like a Mike Diamond plumber (finally I can use that line on someone who'll understand, lol). Don't throw her away, clean her and keep her.

I like black and turquoise together so would use the Sanitizor 88 tools on the Vita-Vac in a heartbeat. Is there much difference between the 88 and Vita-Vac? They sure look to be about the same.
