A "New to Me" Model G!

I went to the local vacuum cleaner store & repair shop run by my friend Ron, to see if he might have the plastic feet I need for my E-Automatic.


 


I went upstairs to his junk rooms and rooted around. He didn't have the E-A feet, but he did have something very beautiful that he gave me ... a reconditioned Model G! It was way back in a dark corner where I almost overlooked it.


 


It's painted in dark turquoise hammertone -- not the color of the Model E/E-A but more the color of the 1205.  Whoever did the refurbishing did a wonderful job, even filling in the Electrolux logos on the sides. As you can see, it's in immaculate condition and it runs smoothly and perfectly!


 


So while I didn't find what I was looking for, I hit the jackpot anyway!!

They did a great job on the paint. It took a good amount of skill and patience. Im not sure the floor attachment came painted. I'm not huge on old luxes but this is nice.

Nice find! The Model G is a great Electrolux to start out with. It was middle of the road for this generation's model line so it a nice rugged cleaner and pretty straightforward and easy to find.

Electrolux had a system where if a vintage model came in to be rebuilt, it would be repainted into the color of the current Elextrolux that was available for sale at the time. This was for protection so it couldn't be sold as a brand new vacuum when it was not.

That might have been done with this vacuum, where it was painted to the color of the 1205.

It is also not impossible that someone could have done a professional repaint. I have a formerly tan Electrolux that has been repainted red - I am not sure if it was done by the factory or by someone else, but it is also 100% perfect too.

Cool vacuum!!!!!!Glad you found it while rooting around the place-wonder if they knew they had it?Sadly the Lux places in Greenville and New Bern cleaned out their places-Too late for me.Asked them to save any banners,poster,advertising,and those air polisher heads for me if they run into anymore of them.Oh yes-very nice wood floors that vacuum is sitting on-Nice to have a house with neat wood floors!!!Mine are just carpet and crappy particleboard.Also the Lux places here have moved a few times so things didn't get saved.The Lux place used be be by a vet clinic and the Rainbow vac place here.At one time Kirby was there,too!All vac places in one area!Kirby and Filter Queen are gone.Got my Kirbys from a place in Raleigh.

NICE Mo G!Any sign of a Metropolitan rebuild label?But it looks better quality than their usual rebuild.I may have the AE feet for front wheel.I found another Elux Special cord wrap yesterday but is Diamond Jubilee color.(The G needs a swivel lock at machine end of hose to prevent wear on pig tail cord.)

Elux factory rebuilds had at least a paper label inside bag door but almost always came with riveted metal plate stating 'rebuilt' and new serial number.

@huskyvacs... The Model G was the top of the line from 1960, when it replaced the Model F, until 1969 when it was replaced by the Model 1205. The lower-tier models during the run of the Model G were the Model R from 1960-1963 and then the Model L from 1963 to 1975.

This is a beautiful model G. It seems it may have been an early reconditioned model during the 1205 era as it shares the similar hose end and PN-1 power nozzle from the early 1205 era. Most people who choose to repaint Electrolux’s fail to use the right paint and it chips horribly! But Electrolux knew what they were doing with paint so this looks as if it was a not home or vacuum shop repaint, but rather an Electrolux factory reconditioning especially the white paint in the logo. I have a nice strong model G in my collection like this but it was turquoise and I painted it a hammered finish dark blue. It looks quite nice and the finish is very hard and doesn’t chip. (I painted my model AF that I use as a shop vac with a dark bronze rustoleum paint and it’s chipping horribly...I was stupid, but I’m considering repainting it with the hammerite brand gold hammered paint because it looks very bad if I bring it into a customers home to clean up after a home repair job).

I have seen a very few factory rebuilt AE & other that had a clear tape with exact white lettering of 'Electrolux' that was placed on rebuilt after painting.

Just in awe

I’m still just in awe of how good this looks in the 1205 colors. I never much cared for the turquoise coloring of the G and painted mine a metallic high gloss hammered dark blue and it looks pretty good but this one is just outstanding. Especially with the hose and all attachments in the blue (or teal as some call it).

In late 2008 early 2009 my friend had to move, she had an Electrolux renaissance but the hose controls had failed. I set her up with my model G with the fresh paint job and a PN-1 in blue like this one and blue attachments from a 1205 she had had previously but gave me. While packing the house up, she had some friends come over to help and the G was out in the dining area and she said everyone who came over remarked at how cool and quality it looked and wanted to have one like it asking her where she got it.

Seems what is old is new again! That’s a fine model G you found!
