A new idea for those old vacuums...

Well, at least for those trashy vacuums, we could turn them into lamps! If we could get a Kirby, then the headlight could be some "mood lighting" and then we could attach a lamp to the handle. That way, we could have a roll-around lamp with floor lighting! Just an idea from the mind of a 14-year-old.

With all the other attachments Kirby's come up with, why not a lamp kit? The headlight on the floor could be kinda neat, like in a theater.

Others have interesting possibilities too. The Electrolux LX lamp could throw its burned-out bulb across the room. The Air-Way lamp would have a 28-ply shade.

And the Dyson lamp would, of course, be bulbless, illuminating solely by the brilliance of James Dyson's mind!

Might be an interesting idea for vacs that are beyond help-but too good looking to throw away.On EBay one time-saw a table light made from an Oster blender--they put the bulb in the container and fastened the container to the base-they removed the motor-they said the motor had burned out.The person that made it felt the blender looked to cool to throw away so he made it into a lamp-an interesting "2nd" life for an appliance?

I have a lamp

made of an old Modern Age tank cleaner. The motor was no good and there was no finding a replacement for it. I wired the lamp switch to the motor switch. I attached a single wand into the mouth of the front, ran wiring up through it and then connected a lamp socket and hardware to the top. I finished it off with a rather mundane beige lampshade. Still looking for something more interesting and innovative for a shade but havn't yet come up with anything.

Accordion lamps?

Well, I play accordion, and I got interested in this idea of vacuum lamps because a guy that takes lessons from my teacher actually makes lamps, and my mom said that an old accordion would look neat. I don't have a clue how that would work. An accordion seems to small for a floor lamp and to big for a table lamp. Mr. Lester, do you think you could post a picture of your lamp? Thanks!

Vacuum Lamps

My old roomate in California made me two table lamps out of two old Electrolux xxx's that I had... They turned out really neat...But unfortunately they got left behind with all my other furniture when I moved back home to Wyoming....But I am going to make me some more of those neat old lamps...

I made a Hoover floor lamp. I used a good U4003 Convertible circa 1973. I removed the agitator and the motor assembly. I left in the bulb and hard wired it to the existing wiring harness. The only bad part is that I had to cut the "curve" off of the handle just above the switch. I put in a "cork" and bought a lamp making kit and shade. The lamp can be turned on and off at the Hoover switch. I can also leave the Hoover switch on and turn off the big bulb on top and leave on the headlight as a floor lamp only. It was very easy to do. Would I do it again? I don't know. The right cleaner has to come along. This one was good but not that good and it was bad but not that bad. This machine could be brought back easily although the handle must be replace. Enjoy!

Tom that is so cool! What a creative idea. I love how you still plug in the vacuum and use the handle switch. The 1070 next to is awesome too!

I also can give you wiring diagrams. Vacuum art can be fun! Especially with old stinky rusty vacuums. Charles Lester has a special place on his website for those. He calls them the Vacuum Cleaner Hall of Shame. Good name, Mr. Charles! Ya'll ought to go check it out. It's pretty shameful...
