Oh yes-the classic Universal F40 ballast--and for T12 bulbs.If you like these glad they hold up and for decades in some cases.The T12 flourescent bulbs are being phased out under the new silly lighting rules.Have a "cobra head" street light I got from my workplace-it had a blown mercury ballast so it was thrown out.rescued it and put a HP sodium 400W ballast in it.Use it with Venture MH conversion bulb-pretty WHITE light!!and from a 50 yr old fixture.Just too nice to let it go to the garbage!Glad there is a fellow Flashaholic on this site-ends up vac collectors collect stuff besides vacuums!

I'm not a member of lighting gallery but I go to the website a lot. I have 3 cobra heads, I wish I had more. I'm not a big fan of the LED street lights here in elpaso because they are too dim, I guess like the people that purchased them for El Paso city, I can't count how many people almost get hit at night in my neaborhood from dark streets.

I am not a member of Candlepower forums-tried to sign on but too much trouble.they discuss mostly portable lights.Haven't heard of Lighting Gallery until now.Can agree on the LED parking lot and streetlights-they just don't have the BRIGHTNESS- Mercury,HP sodium or MH lights have.In my area you can see the difference between a Metal Halide lit parking lot vs the new Wal-Mart LED lit one--MH------MUCH BETTER!!Don't care if it uses more power.MH,HP sodium still wins over LED in Lumens Per Watt!I have other types of HID type lights-LOTS of ceiling ones-My favorites are two "WideLite"450W pulse start Halide--they came from the Michlen Tire factory in Wilson,NC-they replaced them with high bay flourscent-the HID is still better.I have many portable LED lights-for fixed use think the HIDS are still better for large light applications.For the home-the LED is fine.I also have many portable HID lights-these are just basically handheld versions of ones used in cars.These are often better then LED.You can focus the HID in a beam better-carries further.The light source is smaller.

I am not a member of Candle Power Forums. My lighting interest is limited to vintage fluorescent and industrial lights from the mid 20th century.

Certain lights can cause plastics to yellow over time!

Very nice Lithonia Flourescent ceiling lamp--Have some vintage flourescent ceiling lights at where I work-circa early 60's.and the parking lot lights-Westinghouse,GE 250,400W mercury from early 60's.Most still have thir orig ballasts!

I know the yellowing of the plastic is UV damage. I have a fan in a room that yellowed I tried to pick it up and it cracked. So now I have a fan in a room that's yellow with a hole in it.
