Came across this while testing vacs for a local thrift shop. It needs some motor love, but does run. I gave them 15 for it, I thought that was at least fair

It has the original bag (which is in good shape), cord, trim, and handle grip. It is however missing the little rubber bits that go over the pedals.

Penncrest,
For those who do not know, was Hoover's line of cleaners privately labeled for J.C Penney department stores.after the Penncrest name was dropped, cleaners were simply labeled 'J.C Penney'.
Anything Penncrest found nowadays is rare, especially models in great condition, or the deluxe cord-reel Convertible Penncrest! I'm lucky enough to have found a Penncrest polisher, another member here (whose name escapes my mind) has a Penncrest Constellation, and I'm SURE MR.HOOVER himself (John Long) has a Penncrest or two about!
$15 was quite a deal for such a cleaner, well done!

I have a few Penney's cleaners...2 are vault machines. I also have a cordreel upright and a "dial a matic type.

Interesting information on Penncrest. Its too bad they retired the brand name. It would seem to me that they would have wanted to continue to build on the familiarity of it after 20 years.
Incidentally, the corresponding Penney's wordmark with the stylized "shoehorn" 'P' was used by the company from 1963 to 1971. Prior to that time the wordmark used Futura-like capital letters "J. C. Penney Co."; from 1971-2011 and currently it used bicameral Helvetica "JC Penney" letters, and the past few years was known simply as "jcp" (red square logo with lowercase letters).

WOW scott! what an amazing find! ive NEVER seen penncrest vacs here, just smalls. ive never seen that in green. what a rare find! ill see amongst seans and my penney's catalogs from that era what year that cleaner was for sale.

Indeed, I will say that when I saw it my mouth literally dropped open, and I think I gasped. I will give it a "spa" treatment as soon as I can, while being extra careful with the hood.
I have always liked the Pencrest label, always thought it looked neat.
On another note I also found, right next to this thing a quiet series hoover quick broom, three speed, cassette bag changer, and bag full indicator. It runs well and is indeed very quiet.

And yes, they are somewhat rare. I agree with John, after the spa treatment it will be a real beauty! I have one too, a model A117, with cordwinder and headlight. Came from the estate of a friend of the family and have the attachments too! Only wish I had the owner's manual. Haven't got around to taking pics yet, or I would post one.

scott , polish the hood and base paint with rubbing compund on a terry cloth and buff with a microfiber cloth. just make sure to be gentle around the "penncrest" letter as they will rub right off with too much pressure. other than that, those techniques and some high grade car wax for metal base and it'll look brand new.
