Hello all.

Here is an interesting oddity I picked up a while ago from an antique shop in my town. I posted this a while ago but I forgot my details and thus never saw any replies!

This machine although lovingly -brush-painted- in ravishing sky blue by a previous owner, is in a wonderful shade of khaki with the blue hood. I was wondering if anyone has ever heard of such a colour variation before or is it one of our oddities from the long-decommissioned Isando factory in Johannesburg? I know we didn't get any retailer exclusive colour schemes here... to my knowledge at least.

Now I have a dilemma or whether to strip that blue paint and respray it in its original khaki paint or whether to leave the free-spirited paint job how it is. I have been using it as my daily machine off and on for a while and that classic roar or 'brul' as we say in Afrikaans, is intoxicating!

Congratulations!!!

That’s a beautiful machine!! I got a convertible back in May because of the very sound you mentioned; that low rumble. It is indeed a very pleasant sound. If I were you, I’d just leave the blue paint on the hood, as it makes the machine unique. Besides, I think it looks good against the white. If you hadn’t said it wasn’t original, I wouldn’t have even known. Good luck with it!!

When a custom paint job is professionally done and well put together - I leave it on there. I just consider the vacuum as a custom build. It makes it unique and nobody else will have it ;)

Like Thatwasherguy said, if you never mentioned it was a custom job I never would have known. Someone put effort into making that vacuum look good, its a good way to honor their work. I might even paint the handle grip the same shade of blue as the hood to carry the color theme. :)
