A bit of info, the Glider was originally launched in 1990 as a replacement for the z1055 and z1065 - the original last of the 500/Twin Turbo style cleaners. Electrolux have always had 2 ranges of uprights sold alongside eachother, an entry level and a higher end model with multiple versions of each. The Glider was no exception. When it was launched, it had 2 models - a basic white entry level model with 600w single speed, a blue twin speed model and a pink boost model with cord rewind. Originally sold alongside the 614 and 616 (both featured on-board tools), it first more alongside the Contour which arrived a year later. Both have the same handle design.
In 1991, due to high selling back stock, Electrolux brought back the Twin Turbo style as the z1070 Turbo2 - a very budget entry level cleaner. This made the Glider slightly redundant. It was more expensive to buy, but have pretty much the same features as the z1070. The 1070 was also slightly lighter. As a result, the z1070 sold well and the TOL Contour's and Airstream's sold well, but the Glider didn't seem to do as well. I imagine largely because it was a tad pointless in the line up. It also doesn't clean as well as the z1070. It's also worth mentioning that there was another model, the Elite and later the Twin Turbo (same branding, different machine) that were entry-level Contour style machines, but had a rigid hose rather than a flexible stretch hose. These don't seem to crop up very often either.
This particular model is a later one, dated 1994. Unlike the earlier models, it has a proper pedal handle release. Whilst this was a welcome improvement, I've found that the second level release is too high, meaning the cleaner often lifts off the floor in use. Very annoying - the cleaner has to be used at a certain angle for it to work. Don't get me wrong, it does a good job, but it's damn awkward.
It also carries the ESP (Extra Suction Power) branding, which Electrolux used a lot from this line up onwards.
I believe by the time this model came out, the blue and pink models were discontinued and more options of the higher spec Contour were available instead.
All in all, it's a nice cleaner. Lightweight, solid but let down by that awkward handle release.
