Nick we'll have to disagree on that one. Clearly your mind is already made up. The UK is still selling Swift based uprights from Vax since as you know the company is now under TTi. The Swift is far too heavy for its own good, the problem being that the auto adjusting head is too easy to feel like it is ploughing on thin carpets not helped by the thick plastic handle that isn't that comfortable to hold onto. This is because of the most annoying aspect that seems to have been fitted to a lot of the TTI uprights over the years - a thick plastic squeegee designed to pull dirt along when doing hard floors. My neighbour never vacuums hard floors, so I removed the plastic squeegee strip at the base of the floor head and hey, it is now wonderfully lighter to push as there is no rubber that resists the material.
As for the filter - Vax have always fitted the paper pleated cone type and being washable means less replacement dependent on what you pick up. The neighbour used to have a sweet little Spaniel dog until a couple of years ago when the dog died of old age- then the amount of dust they were getting through plus the hair was quite a job for that cone filter alone but the Swift managed it. Now, the Swift no longer has to chase a dog through the house in terms of pet hair - but the other aspect I don't like about it is the hose at the front side design - the plastic for connecting the hose up is very poor - but the cost of replacement parts have been so low that the neighbour sees no desire in replacing something that has been largely reliable.
