A dial-a-matic with an interesting story

Well about a couple weeks ago I walk into a grocery store and hear the sound of a vacuum but I didn't relize it was a DAM because I haven't heard the sound of a DAM in a long time! So I look over at the bakery and I seen a lady use a Dial-a-matic 1110 on her rug! I kept staring at the great DAM and stared at it til me and my mom left the grocery store. Well just last nite I told my aunt about this story and she told me an idea she said "Maybe I will run to the grocery store and talk to the manager about a vacuum trade" so today she talked to the manager of the store about the DAM and he said he would like to trade! So I traded my dirt devil featherlite for a dial-a-matic 1110 in nice condition! I've been wanting a DAM for a really long time and today I finally got one!! It needs a little work but other than that it is a nice lookin DAM.

Congrats on the 1110. I like how you got this one. I always like the story behind the vacuums, and you will always remember the day it came to you. The 1110 was a much improved machine compared to the 1100 that it replaced. This was the first model to have the Check Bag signal and the removable hose on the side of the machine. The 1100 had a permanent hose mounted on it. Happy Hoovering!

The 1110 is my favorite model.. I love that color! It looks well used, but should clean up nicely!

Is it just me, or does it look like the bag check indicator is wedged up behind the exhaust grille?

Shouldn't it be sticking out if the machine is off?

That is a pretty vacuum cleaner, even under the dust. Does yours weigh a ton too?

Mine sure does, i've got one (uk model of course, uk built) just like this..of course mine has no grille and a hole in the front bag cover which I had to full in with car filler (it's very well done ) but as far as I was concerned at the time a dial a matic was a dial a matic, and I wasn't gonna get a better chance at one.

yea my DAM has a loose handle that is probably easy to fix.

DAM's always seem to have loose handles, just tighten up the screw.

I think you're right.
It does look like the 'check bag' indicator was shoved up into the exhaust grill. I'm fairly certain the indicator showed when the machine was off. The airflow pulled it into the exhaust housing. Also, the black filter mesh seems to be missing. I bet that machine has been serviced a few times, especially cleaning up in a grocery store.

That's the model my older sister had that I dismantled and rebuilt one Saturday when I was in the sixth/seventh grade. I remember how intersting it was to see how it was built. I had alot of "air time" with that machine. She used to pay me to clean her house from top to bottom with that machine and a Regina Electrikbroom. Fond memories.

I was also the one who cracked the housing where the handle is inserted when I tried lifting it by the handle over a thick throw rug while in the operating position. I felt really bad about that. Oh well!!

hey the best way to get off scratches and get the bumper clean is using the finest steel wool and some rubbing alcohol!

The handle is loose and there is a crack in the handle holder part. anything I can do?
