A couple of surprises in a 1950s house full of stuff...

One of my graphics clients has a middle-aged son who is a mad scientist / electronics genius. His home is full-to-overflowing with radio tubes, nixie tubes, capacitors, dials, wires, antique medical devices, antique radios & phonographs, solar energy apparatus, speakers, connectors, rack cases, geodes, science memorabilia, about a thousand books -- you name it, it's there. Even a 1929 RCA theremin!

He's lived in the same 1950s split-foyer home for many years but is now having to move because of his wife's major health problems. My client asked me if I would be interested in being retained to help him clean out many decades of STUFF from his home and of course I agreed.

I went over there with him Monday to get a look-around. I noticed a couple of very interesting things down in his basement!

Actually, that XXX is kinda interesting -- it's one of the pretty rare, early transitional models from 1947.

Note the newer-style front cover lever but the early-style flat runners (however, attached to the tank body instead of the back cover and the bag chamber rim as with the earlier models).

I pulled it out to get a look at the rear end and saw that it does also have the circular panel covering the blower opening instead of the later saloon doors.

This was the first version of the XXX that had a flat, disc-style filter pad.

The rug nozzle appears to be from a Lewyt model 44. Wonder if the rest of the machine is there.

There is a LOT of stuff in that house, maybe even more vacuum cleaner stuff. This is just what I saw sitting out in plain sight. I don't know what he plans to do with any of it. He's kind of a funny bird. If I show any interest in something he won't want to give it to me because he'll suddenly think it's valuable. If he offers something to me, that's fine. If not, that's fine too although I would kinda like to have that XXX.

Great basement finds-just wish these sort of things would show up at yard sales here!!!I would need a truck!!Yes,I would love to have that 'Lux polisher-but the dealings would make it difficult.And its on the other side of the planet to me!Would be neat to see more of those "goodies"!!!!Lucky person who gets them!
