88 air-way

I had to replace the motor in my parents Air-Way 88. When I tried the machine today I was just amazed at how quiet and powerful the machine performed after 43 years. Much like the thread about the Hoover Convertibles,sometimes I forget how well designed many of these older machines were with matching cords,hoses and attachment sets. When I took the machine apart I was also quite surprised to find no dust and dirt in the motor or bag compartments. I can't imagine any of the plastic noise makers today will be giving the kind of service we saw with these old Air-Ways,Hoovers and Electrolux vacuums.

Chances are they won't be unless they've been stored in their original boxes since new. Plastic can last if undisturbed but when you start drilling screws thru it or making plastic hinged tabs for compartments and covers, then put it all on wheels and have someone moving it to and fro with occasional bumps into things and dropping it now and then, let alone snapping parts back on and off,, it is bound to crack or break somewhere eventually. Glad you're liking the Airway, I've yet to see one in use.. LOL

And Air-Way still builds their cleaners the way they always have. In fact I was talking about that on the phone this morning with Steve Tomberlin, the President of Air-Way Sanitizor, Inc.
