Hey everyone
I'm almost done with restoring 508. I have Armiture bearings fan carbon brushes bearing plate and fan housing all done. Im trying to wire power toggle switch. I just need a diagram make sure neutral and power wires go to right connection. Usually black power white neutral green ground. The older machines have ground installed on carbon brush housing. The wires are not black power white neutral. This is throwing me off. If anyone has a diagram that would be great
I have used my 505 as reference but wire for front switch they have black clamp assembly before entering switch housing. The 508 might at 1 time had this but it's long gone with original brush nozzle head and bag.
I have another question on brush plate I have kirby gaskets for them do you install with a small amount of silicone or super glue. I installed with 3m liquid gasket and I basically had 2 gaskets. I ask because brush nozzles shake alot if not sealed correctly.
The last thing is the 505 and 508 don't have gasket around fan housing front where nozzle attaches the area that exposes fan. Sorry if English is a bit off I've been sick so I apologize. I hope this makes sense.

Thanks for the help. Jk I realize old wires are Neutral power. So naturally headlight two white wires either one could be power wire. Coming off field coil through motor housing was 2 wires for switch on front of the vacuum. These were black and white wires. So naturally white with white black with black and it's wired. I put on nozzle and it doesn't line up well at all. I'll try to remedy that tomorrow. I started it up other than nozzle rattling motor sounded really good. I'm going to try to make a bracket or something for wires on bottom of vacuum going to switch. I'll polish it up again and have pics shortly.

Yes... white with white and black with black, and so on... for headlight, it's yellow with yellow and black with black.

Thanks for the info.
My headlight must have been rewired or there so old they both looked white. Im not positive but pre 1990 on electrical anything the white and black can be either wire. I believe this is true when wiring old lamps is true. Same with extension cords. But you do have to keep power wires together and neutral together or they trip and potentially fry electrical. Thanks for info I'll try to see if one wire is yellow or if it was rewired.

The 505 and 508 do not have gaskets at the fan inlet from what I understand. The seal is made by close fit of the nozzle to the motor unit, an efficient method. Mine was loose too. In my 505 resto thread you can see how I added JB Weld to the nozzle hooks and milled it carefully to fit snugly.
Make sure the thumb lock up top is not stripped also.

Thanks for well wishes. I don't have flu so that is good. I'm going to try jb weld on nozzle since I have a spare front bracket to give me reference. I think it will work out with jb weld.
