Dyson V15, Omni Glide and their “new” strategy

Dyson have announced the V15 and omni glide.



V15 is about 12% more powerful with the same or better battery life. It features a return of the fluffy head with an angled green “laser light” to show up fine dust particles. Ironically, this is Dyson fitting a light to their floor head, but not for the reason you think. There is no standard LED light for simply illuminating carpeting for example.

The Omni glide will be available in international markets now. It’s been out in Asia for a while. It’s a very light-weight and highly manoeuvrable vacuum for hard flooring. Interestingly, Dyson advertise the Omni glide as having washable dustbins and cyclones.

They are using the dust particle sensors for their air purifiers in their vacuum, so it will tel you in real-time what you are picking up. Totally unnecessary but very geeky.

They have a new mini-powered tool with a cone shaped head for hair to fall off, making it tangle free. The standard carpet tool has plastic combs to groom away hair tangles, and it looks to be a better design than Sharks.

All of these new models have hot-swappable batteries as well.

Their pricing strategy is changing. Due to them using more in’-house developed and manufactured parts, they are more or less keeping the prices of their new models the same as the existing V11 range, despite a lot more technology and power, and they come with more accessories as standard. It’s quite a bit cheaper than the V11 torque when it was launched.

The new mini hair screw tool looks an interesting design! Solves a common issue with hair wrapping/tangling around the brush bar the average user never keeps on top of basic maintenance of the brush bar! The trade off with this is not having full brushing action on this tool! Not a major issue for what it will be used for!

Interesting comment T3 make at the end of their article on the launch of the V15 Detect:

“ Due to complicated legal reasons we can't tell you any more about Dyson's next wave of vacs if you're in the UK. You'll have to wait until late May.”

So looks like there are more vacuum cleaners to be launched in a few months time!

Dyson should think about making a compact cordless canister vacuum with a long hose. Their outsized stick vacs have such large bins, all they would have to do is put some wheels on the V15, replace the trigger switch with a normal switch, and voila! They could have a Dyson stick vac that converts to a compact canister!

In essence, a throwback to the very first Swedish Electrolux cleaner - it was a canister that easily converted to a stick vac.

There's the Henry Cordless which is a cordless canister with a long hose on wheels.

Yes, I know there are several cordless canister/cylinder vacuums on the world market right now: Numatic Henry, LG CordZero, Toshiba and several power tool companies like Black & Decker, Ryobi and Makita offer them.

It’s just that the new larger Dyson stick vacs remind me so much of those very first Swedish Electrolux cylinder cleaners that could be used as a stick vac (they had a big handle on one end to grab it). So I thought it would be a nice evolution of the Dyson to offer a new version that could easily convert to a cylinder vac with a hose. You could have it roll on the floor on wheels, or carry it over your shoulder with a strap. A deluxe version could have an electrified hose to accommodate the mini power nozzle.

Of course this new Dyson would require a standard power switch that stays on - not the trigger they now have.

There was a German AEG canister in the 80's that could be converted into a stick vac.

It looks impressive. I do like the look of the V11 Micro model. I have a Dyson V8 Absolute and it has been pretty good, not the most durable for me as I use it daily on top of my SEBO but it certainly has changed the way I clean.

I guess batteries are the way forward from now on. It's clever how technology has come a long way.

Battery technology is set to change over the next decade from what reports and some manufacturers are saying! Dyson and some Car manufacturers are looking into and working on a new Solid State Battery Technology. This is one of a few new battery technologies that’s going to change batteries technology that is used in cordless appliances and vehicles to name a few!

Solid state batteries are being pioneered as being better for the environment as they last longer in terms of life span as well as in the manufacturing of them. They are suppose to have higher energy storage too, so longer runtimes on a single charge. Smaller and lighter in size and weight plus recharging times will be quicker too. As there is no liquid in them they will not be prone to catching fire.

Dyson is working on their version of solid state battery technology amongst other ones too. I would think their plans are to use it in their cordless vacuum cleaners amongst other applications they may have use for them. It would probably unlock new potential for their cordless vacuum cleaners with longer runtimes on a single charge, or maybe no more need for the trigger button setup! It remains to be seen if Dyson bring their version of solid state battery technology to the next generation of their cordless vacuum cleaners or it’s still a few years away!

The

Solid state will improve performance but the amount of power is fixed. In my opinion the batteries will last longer but performance is not going to increase much.
