No power to Sebo ET-1 head or bush roll switch broken?

My luck with online auction sites has come to an end. A month or two ago I got what I thought was a good deal on a somewhat aged Felix Classic. After cleaning it up and replacing all the filters and brush roll it was running like new. Now today I go to vacuum and there are no lights on on the ET-1 power head and the brush roll is not spinning. Not sure if the switch is broken or there is no power? I opened the power head to see if there was anything obvious. The little plastic bar that opens and closes the roller power switch seems to be operating fine. If there was anything unusual it would be that the light bub for the power head was a bit milky in color vs. the bulb next to it which was clear. After buttoning it all back up the power head is still inoperable.

Is this something an authorized Sebo dealer can repair with relative ease? Is it something obvious or common?

Try pressing the attachment hose all the way into the body of the vacuum. There is a micro switch in the hose canal which disables the ET-1 when the hose is removed. If you don’t get the hose in all the way, the power head won’t work.

As stated above definitely mess where the hose goes into the unit.

If you're familiar with an ohms meter it's a quick troubleshooting process.

If not bring it to a SEBO dealer who's reputable should be relatively reasonable to fix.
If you have any trouble you're walking to send me the power head I do that sort of work.

Ouch, just got the call from the Sebo dealer... will be needing a "neck assembly" and some other wiring something-or-other. Parts need ordered so not ready until next week and a 3-figure repair. If I didn't love how the vacuum cleans I may have told them to keep it. Now my auction "deal" is pushing $350 after replacement parts and repairs for what may be close to a 10 year old vacuum. You win some, you lose some and still a lot less than a new one. I look forward to enjoying it when I get it back.

That sounds about right. I've paid $5 for vacuums that originally cost $200 and then had to put $40-50 into parts. Vacuum collecting is never an investment - always just for the fun. But Sebo, Miele, Riccar, when those things break you'll be bankrupt.

I'm betting some wiring got pinched in the handle or got kinked and broke internally and they have to order an entirely new neck to get the wiring fixed because the cord and switch is part of the handle assembly when bought.

Whenever you have a vacuum that has internal wiring within a retractable handle - 9 times out of 10 the end of the handle will gradually cut into the wiring from the cord getting pinched between the sides of the tube or at the bottom.

I think the Sebo Felix Rosso is a cool little vacuum but sadly never marketed to USA. I like how you can hold it like a canister and dust around with the hose and brush.

@tseg do you know which parts specifically that seems a bit high. sounds like they might be changing out more than a neck maybe a circuit board or they changing the main wiring harness in the rest of the machine?

Are they doing any sort of service or cleaning as well?

I generally charge a flat labor fee $100-120 plus parts. It does seem a little bit high. I was wondering what specifically you were getting for that $350?

Vacuumdevil, sorry for my confusing math recap... $350 includes acquiring the vacuum from auction, replacing all filters and the brush roll and finally, the cost of the repair. So I’m still ahead vs. a new one if I can get years of enjoyment from here with no additional repairs.

Finally I got my Felix back from repair. It looks like the connecting collar to the power head was replaced with a dark grey part vs. the original brown. Beyond that, all seems to be working fine.

Two weeks after getting my Sebo back from repair the power head stopped getting power again. I took it in, after 15 minutes they brought it out of the back room and said a micro switch had been out of alignment. They aligned it and now the head is working again. WTH?
