Interesting...
@rivstg1 I agree about Dyson's tearing up carpet. My DC07, with its helix brush bar, had a tendency to rip up carpet fibers.
@crazykirbydude I agree with you about Dyson quality going downhill. Here's a good story: Six years ago, in early 2013, my grandparents purchased a Dyson DC40 Animal from Costco, and they were initially amazed by it.
However, a month after getting it, my grandmother couldn't figure out how to use the hose, so she had me come over and figure it out in order to do the stairs. Once I pulled out the wand, I was disappointed by its quality; it was no longer made of aluminum, it was now plastic and lacked a handle. In addition, the hose was stiff, and the machine was wobbling as I was cleaning the stairs.
I then proceeded to vacuum the master bedroom upstairs, and there were a couple aspects I wasn't fond of. First, I didn't like the stabilizing wheel mechanism; it made the machine awkward to lock in the upright position, as it would fall if I didn't push the handle far enough. Not to mention the thing was made of plastic and I didn't like the sounds it made. Made me concerned about the longevity.
The second was the ball itself. It actually made the machine harder to steer; in addition, it was enormous, so it couldn't fit under most furniture. My DC07 Animal has that same issue, but it doesn't have the ball.
At the end of the day, before going home, I had to store the attachments on board for my grandparents, as they couldn't figure out where they went.
Finally, a few months later, my grandmother returned her Dyson because it (gasp!) lost suction. Apparently, it was clogging very quickly. She replaced it with a Shark Navigator Lift-Away Deluxe, which still works to this day.
So that's my view on modern Dyson's.
