Kirby shampoo alternatives

So I just scored a Kirby Shampoo System for my Sentria. It's very nice shape, used in the original box, but doesn't have any shampoo with it, which begs the question of what products I might be able to use with it. Granted, Kirby shampoo would be the best alternative, but I can't just go down to the store and grab a bottle; I'd have to order it from somewhere. I'm certainly not opposed to doing that, but what if I'm in Wally World and suddenly think 'hey, I need some carpet shampoo!'? What could I pick up off the shelf to use with it--and perhaps the flip side of that coin, what should I absolutely NOT use with it?

I'd use bissell carpet shampoo I know not to mix brands don't get scented either. I'd even use distilled water. I think you should be safe bissell makes shampoo systems kirby makes vacuums. You might have to dilute shampoo just my 2 cents.

Just make sure it's meant for dry foam shampooing, I can only think of 3 brands, Kirby, Electrolux (aerus) and Titan brand shampoo (purple label, made for foam type)

Now I'm uncertain of how familiar you are with their system but dry foam carpet cleaners agitate foam into the carpeting it is then left to dry as it dries the chemical crystalizes taking the dirt with it, once it is completely dry the area is vacuumed removing the crystalized chemical

Standard shampoo is made for water extraction, if used in a Kirby system it will leave chemical residue in your carpeting. As those types are made to be rinsed out. I would not use anything other than a dry foam shampoo. It'd be the best and easiest to just stick to Kirby's line.

NO BISSELL SOLUTION!!! IF you use that, it will leave your carpets very sticky!

Stick with Kirby's shampoo. I have tried to use other dry foam concentrates. It is hard to get the right mix. You either have to much or to little.

Thanks for the information. I just ordered a gallon of Kirby carpet shampoo for $27.90 with free shipping. That should keep me going for a while.

Use either Kirby or Electrolux shampoo made for dry foam systems.

DO NOT USE BISSELL SHAMPOO
DO NOT USE HEAD AND SHOULDERS SHAMPOO

Just because it says shampoo doesn't mean it's the right on for your system.

On another note if you are cleaning a wool carpet don't use anything with Oxy Clean in it. It will damage the wool fibers.

I'd use bissell carpet shampoo and dawn dish soap lol jk. I mistaken sentria shampoo system with avalir. If you think resolve stain remover is basically like kirby shampoo lol I know don't roast me it was a joke. Good info thread. Does avalir use water based system?

I still have some original Kirby shampoo from 2004. Had no idea it was that expensive! I have a Bissel ProHeat Pet I use for the house, and a beater Bissel SpotBot that leaks like a colander (yard sale rip-off) I use outside to clean the car. I never really used my Kirby's shampooer.

The only time I use my Kirby shampooer is to work in pretreat in the high traffic areas. Then give them a deep cleaning with the commercial box extractor I have.

And don't really care for the fragrance of todays Kirby shampoo.

Kirby Avalir is a dry foam system, the same as Sentria and all previous Kirbys. The Avalir will mop floors with water and the mop roll.

Lesinutah - I'm amazed you didn't tell him to use real poo as opposed to shampoo in his Kirby system.

I'd recommend your poo. Seriously layoff if you didn't like my post you don't have to reply. I'm not trolling anyones posts. I made a fool of myself so what. My gallon of Kirby carpet shampoo arrived intact this afternoon, which is a wonder the way it was packaged. The seller put it in a plastic envelope, presumably to contain spillage, and then just shoved it in a Priority Mail flat rate box, which had gotten pretty thrashed by the time it arrived on my doorstep, but the jug was unscathed inside. I'm not sure when I'll crack the jug open and shampoo the few rugs I have, but when the need and occasion arises, I'll be ready.

I received my shampoo today as well. I have a dual sanitronic 80 with suds o gun. What I found out shampoo I use for d80 works with all Kirbys. The d80 just has different application method but both do the same. I got lavender scent. I'm not into scented carpet shampoo but for price I couldn't beat it.
