Hello everyone,

After many cups of tea, hundreds of e-mails, a few carefully worded phone calls and some strings pulled, the date for the UK/Europe vacuumland meetup has been finalized as 31 May 2014.

The meet up will take place at the Best Western Nottingham-Derby Hotel in Long Eaton. This is a very central location for all UK members with easy access to motorway links, rail links and also very close to East Midlands Airport.

The event will kick off at 1pm, but please arrive earlier if you're bringing some cleaners with you so we can get set up.

There is no set itinerary for the day as of yet, so if anyone has any ideas for activities during the day, please post below. The US convention has previously done things like "best restoration", so we could run something like that? Quizes, competitions etc. Happy to discuss. Equally, if anyone wants to a "show and tell" or presentation, please let me know.

A 2 course evening buffet will be served, along with unlimited tea's and coffee's throughout the day. We're also more than welcome to bring along any cakes or pastries that anyone wants to bake.

Tickets are currently £30 per person, based on the estimated head count. However, if this goes over and above our expectations, this will be reduced accordingly. I am also awaiting confirmation of potential sponsorship for the event, so this could be reduced even further.

Included in the price is the buffet, tea's and coffee's, use of the room including laptop hook-up to the projector for presentations or picture displays, a "golden ticket" which will be posted to you and a souvenir t-shirt.

The hotel have offered a discounted rate of £59.00 per night B&B for attendees.

Now, so far, I've not paid out a penny. The hotel will hold the booking for us for 6 weeks before I need to either cancel or pay a deposit. That means I need to have confirmed a MINIMUM of 20 attendees who have paid up by 06th August 2013. Please post below to confirm your attendance and what machines you intend to bring with you. I will get back to you with payment details, but this is being done via paypal so all attendee's will be refunded should the turn out not be high enough. Equally, if we get more than the expected amount of attendee's, partial refunds will be issued to all guests.

I hope this is ok with everyone and hope to see as many of you there as possible. Again, we have until 06th August to confirm this with the hotel and if the head count is not big enough by then and enough people have not paid to attend, it will sadly be cancelled.

Any questions, please ask. Post below to confirm attendance.

Many thanks,
Chris

Count me in!

Well done Chris and thank you once again for organising this.

I will hold back on what cleaners I might bring for the moment, till I see what others are bringing as I will look to some of the rarer cleaners - GEC, Hotpoint, Vintage AEG, Bylock, Vactric. Plenty of Hoover, Goblin and Electrolux too, but they can wait to see what others bring :)

Sorry to hear about your Grandfather, I hope the day goes well for you, although being NI it is quite likely to end up as a celebration of his life :) Perhaps you did not know that my parents were from NI and I lived there until I was 28

Hi Al,

That sounds great! Steve Cook has messaged me to let me know he'll be coming and bringing his Concept 1 and Concept 2, plus a few other surprises.

Thanks for your kind words. My Grandad was 90 and died very peacefully in his sleep. We are thankful that he lived as long as he did and that we have so many memories of him. He never lost his sense of humour.

I think I did know that actually, although I wasn't sure where abouts you were from. I'm 1/2 Northern Irish on my Mum's side. Yorkshire and Irish cross - a rather bonkers combination, I was doomed from the start :P.

Hope to get some more responses soon. Will post up instructions on payment when I get back form Belfast. In the meantime folks, please confirm below.

Thanks,
Chris

To our Junior members....

Junior members are more than welcome to attend, under the following rules:

Any Junior members staying overnight must be accompanied by an adult and I must have prior written consent to attend from parents. Adults do not have to stay throughout the day, but must be there for pick up and drop off.

Any Junior members attending for the day only must be dropped off and picked up by a parent or guardian and again, I must have prior written consent to attend.

Any adults accompanying Junior members do not have to pay the ticket fee. There will only be 1 charge for a Junior member being accompanied.

Hope this makes sense.

Chris

Hi Michael,

You would need to accompanied by an adult, and I would need written consent from your parents for you to attend.

If your Mum and Dad are happy for you to be accompanied by Alex, then you're absolutely welcome to do so, but I'd need consent first.

However, you would both still need to pay the ticket price as you're both VL members and would both be fully participating.

Thanks,
Chris[this post was last edited: 6/25/2013-14:33]

Last update for tonight, folks...

Just to let everyone know, tickets will be on sale as soon as I hear back from our potential sponsor.

Thanks[this post was last edited: 6/25/2013-15:52]

Hi guys,

Staying over is totally optional. Each guest will need to arrange their own accommodation anyway by contacting the hotel. So if you're local and don't need it, just don't book it.

All I need is the £30 ticket price from everyone

Chris
