Hello everyone, I have a dyson dc14 that when you turn it on everything seems to work right except the brush roll is spinning backwards throwing the dirt away from the suction intake. I took the machine down to the belt assembly and everything looks right but that being said I have no clue what's wrong. Please help
Thanks Mark

Only thing I can think of is the brush roll motor, or the suction motor has been wired up wrong. I am no electrician but there should be two wires connecting to two terminals on the motor. If it is spinning backward, they are the wrong way round.

Someone can probably better explain it than me. Has it been stripped down to the motor and had any work done to it ? Only I did this when I cleaned my Morphy Richard navigator lift-away with the brush motor.

No the suction motor has never been touched and im pretty sure the dc14 only has one motor and an clutch belt system. :-(

I was thinking that but the suction motor hasn't been touched and if the fan spun backwards wouldn't be blowing the air instead of sucking it in?

The belt rests on the shaft of the motor so what else could cause the brushroll to spin backwards. Are you positive it's spinning backwards?

Can't see how the switch would cause the brushroll to run backwards it just breaks the circuit. It has to be the motor

Ok I have no clue what I did but the diesoon is now working and has pick up a bin and a half from a rug that had been vacuumed with a kirby g3 for most of its life and a kirby heritage 2 legend right before the dyson so at least it works (for now)

Those brushes on the dc07 and 14 always had that backwards look but they did not spin backwards

Correct.

Ctvacman is right they just look that way. It really is a rather wimpy brush for such a vacuum. It's not possible to reverse the motor by just swapping the ground and neutral. Because we all have what's called alternating current ( it changes direction 60 times a second) you can swap the hot and neutral all you want and it still runs exactly the same. Polarity only comes into play with electronics and more delicate equipment. For a regular vacuum it has no effect.

I know the solution to any Dyson problem, trade it up for a KIRBY!

Just kidding, there's SOME good Dysons out there, but only SOME!
