Hi everyone.

I wasn't going to do it, but today I went thrifting and a Miele Plus S251 followed me home. I only paid $15 for it and it is in really nice shape. Is anybody familiar with this machine? I need to do the obvious such as replace filters and get bags for it. Any recommendations as to what to buy? What do you think of Miele power nozzles? The one that came with this machine seems to work fine, but it seems a little whimpy for a machine like this. Any and all opinions are most welcome.

Thanks for your time and have a great week end.[this post was last edited: 8/23/2014-18:02]

What a great find, Joe! Today was your lucky day to pick up a Miele for only $15 dollars. Is it me though or are those tools with the hose & powerhead mismatched?? A couple of them look like they may belong to a Shark vacuum. The SEB217 pn is whimpy for sure, but you could upgrade to the SEB236 & turn that Miele into a beast on carpets.

I think

Thanks Rob.

I kinda knew that the turbo nozzle and crevice tool belong to a different vacuum, and the thrift store employees just bundled them with it. My gain. I can find a machine they will work with. I've wanted a Miele. Just never thought I'd get one for that price for the great condition it's in.

Hey Rob

I just looked up that PN you recommended. It looks like its a direct connect. Mine has an external cord that plugs into the hose. If I bought one of those, would I need to replace my wands and hose too? Is there another non Miele nozzle that is good that will work with what I have? After closer inspection, I found that the previous owner used junk bags in this machine. I found that Bed Bath and Beyond has genuine bags so off to the bus stop go I! :-)[this post was last edited: 8/24/2014-11:07]

We'll today was an exercise in frustration.

I hopped the bus and went to Bed Bath and Beyond to get bags and found out that they don't actually carry the bags. They have to order them. Even though they have a Miele on display, it's a low end model and if you want it,they have to order it too. WTF??? They have lots of Shark and Ninja products readily available. First and last time in that store.

Visalia has almost 200,00 people and only one vacuum shop. They're closed tomorrow, so I'll visit them on Tuesday. Hope they have the bags and filters. If not then I want to ask if anyone here who has a vacuum store has Miele supplies. I'd rather buy from a friend than a random online shop I don't know.

The doctor is in!

Went to the vacuum store today and got the proper bags and filters for it. Now, hook up the Electrolux and start cleaning it out. Luckily, my neighborhood shop is an authorized Miele dealer. He asked me if I wanted generic bags and I said no. I always use genuine supplies for my machines when available.

Cleaning the outside of the canister

What is the best to use to clean the scuff marks off the canister and polish it? I was going to use glass cleaner, but the manual says not to. What can I use?

Poor Meile-that is what you can get if you use "bojack" bags on the former owners part.Note how the bag intake coller was crushed instead of properly connecting to the hose inlet on the machine. For cleaning off the scuff marks I first start with isopropal alcohol(drug or grocery store)If that doesn't work-try methanol alchohol-hardware or paint store-try in an inconspicous spot first-this is a more powerful cleaner and can cause damage. It is also sold as marine stove fuel.Careful with the Methanol alchohol-it is toxic and highly flammable.

Rex

If you want a sure-fire way to remove marks & scuffs from vacuums that won't cause damage, go & buy yourself a can of aerosol hairspray. However, it MUST be the aerosol kind....hairspray sold in pump bottles doesn't work.
