more comments about the convention and my recordings

I wish I would have brought one of my vacuums to the convention, since I don't drive, carrying it would have been somewhat difficult, will probably bring it next year unless I get something more interesting between now and then. I wish I would have brought the Purvac barracuda, that thing is a beast, I will include a link for anyone interested in the specs.

Regarding my recordings, looking through them now and they turned out great. Unfortunately I think you can only post pictures in these threads rather than sound files, definitely going to keep these backed up in dropbox. The first vacuum I ended up recording was the Aerus Guardian Platinum, a great vacuum, my biggest issue with it is that the hose end and electric power connector are nonstandard, which for me is a deal breaker. There is an adapter to convert the hose end, but you would still be limited to the Aerus power nozzle.
Next on the recording is the Perfect plastic canister, I believe the model number is c103, and I actually own that vacuum now, Tom made me an offer I could not refuse. I actually already have the Perfect metal model c101, but they actually use different motors. The metal model is a two stage Ametek, not sure which motor the plastic c103 uses, but I can tell by the sound that it's one stage, it's quite powerful though. On the recording, I actually am impressed by how much suction the Perfect vacuum has, I'm glad I bought it.
Next on the recording is the Aerus classic which I already have, a good vacuum, though I think their two stage motors, such as what is found in the Ambassador 3 sound a bit better.
Next on the recording is the Kirby Avilair, Craig got a great deal on one of those, and him and a few other guys took the time to clean it up since a previous owner had vacuumed up mud with it. I think it took around an hour to totally clean it up.
Next up we have the Riccar Prima, I actually have this vacuum, one of the quietest most powerful canisters you can get, the only other canister that matches the sound level and power is the Electrolux Ultra One.
Next up is a recording of a Kenmore, not sure which model, based on the sound, it was a two stage motor, so it had to be from probably the 1990's or before, I don't think this was a really old Kenmore though.
The next recording is of the Eureka canned ham, a very nice canister from the 1950's, I think my grandmother had something similar to that, but hers was two speeds, this vacuum had a very nice sounding Ametek motor, I'm pretty sure it was two stage. It also came with a vibrating attachment to attempt to remove the dirt from carpets. The vibrating tool sounded kind of like a motor cycle or a jack hammer.
Next is a recording of a Kirby 516
I ended up getting a recording of the Dyson Cinetic, someone else was using it in the background.
Up next on the recording we have one of the Ken Cart's, not sure which model, but again, a very good sounding motor.
The next one is the Royal two speed upright, it was the only two speed vacuum Royal ever made I think.
Next on the recording is one I really wanted, the Sunbeam duelle deluxe canister that included a turbo brush. This was probably the most powerful canister at the time, in the 1950's, a 900 watt motor on a vacuum was unheard of, and this vacuum had it. It took around 10 seconds for the motor to totally shut off. It had as much suction as some of the vacuums do today, an awesome vacuum for sure.
Next comes another sunbeam, not sure of the model but it was a 775 watt motor instead of 900, again, a very nice sound.
Next is a recording of a Rainbow, I believe it was a D2, those motors had somewhat of a unique sound.
Next comes a Hoover upright, I think someone says it's a 580, doesn't have a whole lot of suction with the hose, that's for sure, but it was a dirty air machine.
Next, I got a recording of a Filtex Central Vacuum, I think someone ended up buying that, it has a nice sound to it.
Wow, at one point on the recording, we have the central vacuum, the Sunbeam, and a kirby going at once, nothing like several vacuums going at once.
Next comes the Royal Electro Hygene, sounds very similar to the Eureka canned ham. I know many vacuums around that time used the same Ametek motors.
Not sure what the model is of the next one on the recording, it's from the 1960's, it was a Eureka upright, but it kind of sounded like a canister motor.
Next comes a very quiet vacuum, the Electrolux model G.
Next we have a recording of a Kirby classic.
Next comes a recording of the Simplicity Freedom Cordless.
Up next on the recording comes the Kirby Tradition.
Next we have a recording of an Electrolux automatic upright.
Next comes another nice sounding Kenmore canister, not sure of the model number but it included the CT14 power nozzle.
Next we have another Kenmore, very similar but apparently it was a different model than the previous one.
Next we have the G.e. Premier.
Next on the recording comes a hoover dialamatic.
Next we have the filter queen with a vibrating attachment, not sure how that worked, but I did get a recording of it.
And last but not least, on the recordings I made were two Kenmore's, one was apparently from around 1975 and the other one was from around 1978.
So, I definitely was able to bring back what for me would be the same thing as pictures, it was a great convention, already looking forward to the next one.

other purchases

I think many others who attended the convention are also on this site, wondering what everyone bought or sold or had repaired. I know Tom was able to repair Brian's rainbow, hopefully you were able to get Russ's rainbow working as well. Craig got an awesome deal on that Kirby, and everyone put a lot of time in to getting it cleaned up, getting all of the mud out of it definitely took some time.

fragrance crystals

Hey everyone, forgot to ask about this when I was at the convention. What were those vacuum crystals that make a bag smell better? I think some of those were in the bag that was in the Perfect vacuum I got, I wanted to get more of them for some of my other bags.

took the electrolux vacuums for a spin

I took the two electrolux vacuums I got from the convention for a spin this evening, awesome. I don't think the motor in the 1205 is the same one that is used in the Eureka canned ham, I think Electrolux made their own motors rather than getting them from Ametek, but it has the same pitch and very similar tones, that motor has a very nice sound compared to some of the high pitch screamers that are so common today. Hard to believe that vacuum is probably over 40 years old and still runs so well, everything was made so much better back then, products were built to last rather than to only work a few years and then be thrown away. Some vacuums are still made that way today, Riccar, Miele and Sebo come to mind, and the current Aerus models appear to be well made, but many other vacuums cannot claim that.

Electrolux

As well as Hoover Cadfillac . Sunbeam and a few of the Apex cleaners used their own motor. before 1958 Birtman built their own motors.

We missed you Jeff. On the bright side, you have one year to plan to attend in 2017. It's always the second weekend in June.

crystals and the volt

Got some laundry crystals, they work great. I just put the hose of each of my vacuums in to the jar and let it suck up a bit of them, my girl friend is also going to try something with hers, she's going to put some essential oil on a paper towel and let the vacuum suck it in. I know Tom posted some pictures of the new volt power nozzle, it's awesome. It gives great carpet cleaning ability to any central vacuum, canister or backpack that does not have a power nozzle, and the air that blows out of the end of the wand is quite possible since it's not just a spinning brush, it's also a dirty fan design so it provides air flow near the carpet as well. This should be a great product when it becomes available.

WONDERFUL CONVENTION!!!

I had so much fun at the convention!!!!! Lots of vacuums, great food, great people, tons of laughter, some drinking, education, some lawn mowing. Who could ask for more!!!

I submitted my final semester paper on Wednesday, June 8. Greg Palmer drove about 5 hours down to my house and we carpooled together in my car for 13 hours down to St. James, Missouri. A long drive but well worth it!!

This was my first time to the museum ever!!!

One of the first things to notice is the gorgeous brand new line of Tacony products!!! Riccar Prima, Simplicity Wonder, Simplicity Verve, Simplicity Gusto, the full Fuller Brush line, the full Maytag upright line. Lots of vacuums!!!

Then of course is the museum collection itself with various rooms. I spent a lot of my time in the 1970s room. That's where I found many units of my passion--- power nozzle canister vacuums!!! Several Kenmore Magicord canisters, 2 Hoover Celebrity's including a similar model Celebrity II Elite to the one I own, several Royal power tanks, just a great room!!

Thursday and Friday were both spent at the museum!!

Greg filled my Subaru Forester with several Filter Queens that he bought off Tom Gasko at the museum!!

One of them he used to clean our motel room with!

Saturday Luau!!!

Saturday was the Luau reception for Tom and Don having been married on May 4 of this year!! A very happy congratulations to the couple!!! I had their Thursday night meals added to my dinner check as part of the weekend celebration. I also had Evan Rogers meal added to my check that night as it was his actual birthday on June 9! Happy Birthday Evan!!!!!

Anyway, Saturday was great. Tom prepared pulled pork sandwiches, 2 large pineapple upside down cakes, 2 different potato salads, pasta salad, a wonderful alcoholic punch--can't remember actual name of it, was very very good though!!

Everyone just seemed to have a great time running vacuums, eating, drinking, and socializing.

Generous Gifts!!

So Tom knows how much I enjoy Marinara sauce! He made a special batch of his Homemade Marinara Sauce just for me to take home!!! It is wonderful!! I've been enjoying little bits as a dip. But I'm probably gonna heat up some stuffed shells in a large amount of the sauce! We'll see!!

I'm a nut for tomato sauces. Whether one calls it gravy, Marinara, Pizza sauce, pasta sauce, Margherita, Arrabiata, Bolognese, Tomato Basil, it does't matter what variety I love them all!! I love it on pasta, pizza, lasagna, meatball parmigiana subs. But especially Marinara makes the best dip as far as taste and it's healthy as lycopene has been shown to help prevent cancer in addition to the many herbs in the sauce with other health benefits!

Here's some of my favorite things for dipping in tomato sauces:
French Fries
Bread Sticks
Chicken Tenders
Pizza Crusts
Breaded Ravioli
Jalapeno Poppers
Mozzarella Sticks
Breaded Calamari
Breaded Mushrooms

Thanks so much Tom!!

Another Generous Gift!!

Tom and Donnie also know that I love power head canisters!!

This Royal Procision RY3050 so far seems to fit me well!! It is very powerful, it is a deep navy blue, excellent suction/ airflow, excellent grooming, brush roll on/ off, headlight, swivel hose, attractive styling, pleasant sound.

It's such a nice surprise to be gifted a vacuum cleaner!!

Thanks very very much Tom and Donnie!!!

You are most welcome Rob. It was so good to meet you, and have you join us both for the convention as well as our wedding reception. I learned the recipe for the marinara sauce from an old Italian woman. In St. Louis they bread and then deep fry the ravioli. This is the sauce they make for the fried ravioli.

The punch was called "hippie juice". It's a mixture of one fifth watermelon vodka, one fifth Caribbean rum, one fifth triple sec, strawberries, and since we are all watching our weight, diet 7-Up.

This is an ongoing thing, the convention, always held the same second weekend in June at the same place. Making it very easy for people to plan to come. And with no registration fee, no banquet free, no membership fee, everyone is free to just have a nice easy and relaxing time.

Don't any of you guys need a Lewyt to complete your coll

I have a nice, still working 1940's Lewyt cannister that needs a new home/collection. It was my grandmother's. She bought it from a man who came door to door in Delaware. Probably Lewyt. Sorry no attachements or box. Located in Southeast PA. Respond by posting to this thread.

Andrea-

Your post for that Lewyt would go to the Supermarket section of this website.

I am in Pennsylvania as well. I'm a small collector though and I don't do any straight suction machines. Everything in my home has to have an electric motor driven brush roll.

I have one of every model Lewyt in my collection, this is the first time I ever heard of any Lewyt being sold by door to door salesman. You have a very nice model 55. This is what it would look like complete with hose and attachments.
