more comments about the convention and my recordings
I wish I would have brought one of my vacuums to the convention, since I don't drive, carrying it would have been somewhat difficult, will probably bring it next year unless I get something more interesting between now and then. I wish I would have brought the Purvac barracuda, that thing is a beast, I will include a link for anyone interested in the specs.

Regarding my recordings, looking through them now and they turned out great. Unfortunately I think you can only post pictures in these threads rather than sound files, definitely going to keep these backed up in dropbox. The first vacuum I ended up recording was the Aerus Guardian Platinum, a great vacuum, my biggest issue with it is that the hose end and electric power connector are nonstandard, which for me is a deal breaker. There is an adapter to convert the hose end, but you would still be limited to the Aerus power nozzle.
Next on the recording is the Perfect plastic canister, I believe the model number is c103, and I actually own that vacuum now, Tom made me an offer I could not refuse. I actually already have the Perfect metal model c101, but they actually use different motors. The metal model is a two stage Ametek, not sure which motor the plastic c103 uses, but I can tell by the sound that it's one stage, it's quite powerful though. On the recording, I actually am impressed by how much suction the Perfect vacuum has, I'm glad I bought it.
Next on the recording is the Aerus classic which I already have, a good vacuum, though I think their two stage motors, such as what is found in the Ambassador 3 sound a bit better.
Next on the recording is the Kirby Avilair, Craig got a great deal on one of those, and him and a few other guys took the time to clean it up since a previous owner had vacuumed up mud with it. I think it took around an hour to totally clean it up.
Next up we have the Riccar Prima, I actually have this vacuum, one of the quietest most powerful canisters you can get, the only other canister that matches the sound level and power is the Electrolux Ultra One.
Next up is a recording of a Kenmore, not sure which model, based on the sound, it was a two stage motor, so it had to be from probably the 1990's or before, I don't think this was a really old Kenmore though.
The next recording is of the Eureka canned ham, a very nice canister from the 1950's, I think my grandmother had something similar to that, but hers was two speeds, this vacuum had a very nice sounding Ametek motor, I'm pretty sure it was two stage. It also came with a vibrating attachment to attempt to remove the dirt from carpets. The vibrating tool sounded kind of like a motor cycle or a jack hammer.
Next is a recording of a Kirby 516
I ended up getting a recording of the Dyson Cinetic, someone else was using it in the background.
Up next on the recording we have one of the Ken Cart's, not sure which model, but again, a very good sounding motor.
The next one is the Royal two speed upright, it was the only two speed vacuum Royal ever made I think.
Next on the recording is one I really wanted, the Sunbeam duelle deluxe canister that included a turbo brush. This was probably the most powerful canister at the time, in the 1950's, a 900 watt motor on a vacuum was unheard of, and this vacuum had it. It took around 10 seconds for the motor to totally shut off. It had as much suction as some of the vacuums do today, an awesome vacuum for sure.
Next comes another sunbeam, not sure of the model but it was a 775 watt motor instead of 900, again, a very nice sound.
Next is a recording of a Rainbow, I believe it was a D2, those motors had somewhat of a unique sound.
Next comes a Hoover upright, I think someone says it's a 580, doesn't have a whole lot of suction with the hose, that's for sure, but it was a dirty air machine.
Next, I got a recording of a Filtex Central Vacuum, I think someone ended up buying that, it has a nice sound to it.
Wow, at one point on the recording, we have the central vacuum, the Sunbeam, and a kirby going at once, nothing like several vacuums going at once.
Next comes the Royal Electro Hygene, sounds very similar to the Eureka canned ham. I know many vacuums around that time used the same Ametek motors.
Not sure what the model is of the next one on the recording, it's from the 1960's, it was a Eureka upright, but it kind of sounded like a canister motor.
Next comes a very quiet vacuum, the Electrolux model G.
Next we have a recording of a Kirby classic.
Next comes a recording of the Simplicity Freedom Cordless.
Up next on the recording comes the Kirby Tradition.
Next we have a recording of an Electrolux automatic upright.
Next comes another nice sounding Kenmore canister, not sure of the model number but it included the CT14 power nozzle.
Next we have another Kenmore, very similar but apparently it was a different model than the previous one.
Next we have the G.e. Premier.
Next on the recording comes a hoover dialamatic.
Next we have the filter queen with a vibrating attachment, not sure how that worked, but I did get a recording of it.
And last but not least, on the recordings I made were two Kenmore's, one was apparently from around 1975 and the other one was from around 1978.
So, I definitely was able to bring back what for me would be the same thing as pictures, it was a great convention, already looking forward to the next one.
