1997 Hoover PurePower U3142 Help Needed!

Hello!


 


I've managed to acquire an early Hoover PurePower amongst a joblot of eleven vacuum cleaners. It's a U3142 from October 1997 (9740) so it's a very early model. It has variable power control as well as a bag full light. It's also in a bright green colour.


 


So, it, amongst all the other vacuums were tested prior to me buying them, so I have word from the seller that they all work. As well as having a slight lean, the PurePower's wheels are horrendous. They wobble extremely from side to side, which means pushing them on any surface makes the wheel scratch along the sides of the base, making a horrible racket. Now, I was wondering if anybody knows how to replace the wheel axle on these PurePowers, and if replacements are sourceable.

Apart from that, the machine seems to be cosmetically ok, it needs a good clean which I have managed to attend to, and will need a new S class filter and the obligatory new belt.


 


I'm really looking forward to using and owning an early PurePower, and I appreciate any advice!

If I remember correctly, there is no way apart from replacing the whole chassis. I may be wrong though. Feel free to correct me anyone.

Also for the leaning, it's the little foot release catch that's buggered up.So in that case the whole chassis does need replacing.

Well, in the lot that this came in there was a Dust Manager that has cracked plastic and stinks of dog, so would it be a good idea to try the chassis from the Dust Manager in the PurePower?

the wheel caps come off by pressing (carefully) the tabs in on the wheel caps on the opposite side, take the cap off and you will be able to remove the wheel, they are just push fit, so they push onto the rod and the tabs click into a grove on the metal rod. Looking at how wobbly your wheels are these tabs may have broken, but if not prize them over the meat shaft and pull the wheel off and replace.


 


If it won't stand up, try replacing the pedal, that is very fiddly, so if you can't be bothered, then just replace the whole chassis, bear in mind that wheels do not come with a chassis replacement kit.

Well, I've got a scrap Dust Manager that has lots of battered and cracked plastic, and clogged up to Kingdom come.

So I'm hoping to be able to use the chassis off the Dust Manager and put it on the PurePower. So how do I remove the chassis from both the machines? I've enclosed a picture.

It's been a while since Iv'e worked on these but if I remember correctly it just lifts out. I may be wrong though,anyone feel free to correct me.

Its not a bad job tbh. I need to do the same with my vortex as the chassis broke again.

Its probably very similar to my vortex, thread linked incase it helps! Ive got a chassis from a dust managerless cyclone to go on it, only difference that i can see is that its black not blue.

Right, thanks for your advice Beko1987, it's gone well so far but I've managed to get into a spot of bother with it.

I've got everything ready to go back, but, I have absolutely no idea how to get the main body attached to the chassis using those clips, even though I managed to get them off! So I'm stuck now, if anyone can help with what to do now it would be greatly appreciated!

When we had that dark green rare purepower with glitter in the plastic and variable power with LED lights etc, it had such a stubborn foot pedal, was more of a novelty! Didn't work so had to kick the cleaner head down all the time. Didn't break, was a durable thing and these were sold around a decade ago? weird. It was also dropped a few times, such a durable Hoover, I find purepowers (well the early ones anyways) to be durable, ours was abused and used for DIY too. then it just wouldn't turn on.

Ah, you put the white clips into the chassis by their pegs, then (tricky this bit) bend the white rings out, slot the back of the machine into them and push both rings onto the round locating bits in the main body and down into the chassis.
