Hey everyone, a couple of weeks ago I managed to snatch up this Hoover Purepower Autosense from eBay, I was super excited when I won it as I have wanted one of these very early Purepowers since I saw Ryan's (U5096 on YouTube) video of it that he made years ago, I am so lucky to of gotten it.
I only paid £11.50 for it with £15 postage so it worked out ok.
To anyone who doesn't know the Purepowers came out in 1997 and there were four models in the original line up as follows:

Green 1200 watt U3120 - basic bag light, five stage filtration and stair cleaning.

Red 1300 watt U3130 - variable power, bag light, air freshener, five stage filtration and stair cleaning.

Blue 1400 watt U3140 - Autosense, bag light, air freshener, permabag, 5 stage filtration and stair cleaning.

Red 1400 watt U3141 - Autosense, bag light, air freshener, S-Class filtration and stair cleaning.

I obviously have the top end all singing, all dancing model, which, like I said am lucky to own as they are rare as rocking horse Sh*t now!

The Purepower Autosense models didn't last very long at all and Hoover stopped making them with it, probably to cut costs as they got older.

Anyway, this one is in Fantastic condition, it looks to have been "babied" which is a very good thing considering these are hard to find. The only set backs it has is it needs a new undercarriage and chassis and the bag light doesn't work, which I am hoping it is just blocked in the tube and or pressure switch which will be cleared when all put back together as it has been fully cleaned now, I am just praying it is not a burnt out LED on the circuit board, because I will have to replace the entire Autosense panel which they do still make, believe it or not, but E-spares want £106 for it!!! I am not going to be getting one!!!

So, here are some before restoration pictures I will post the after photos once it is all back together.

Why do people not at least wipe out the bag compartment, and more so clean that BLOODY filter!! argh. Also notice that it has the earlier style bag "locking in" system.

Here is the broken chassis, I have removed, the bumper, back wheels and handle release, as you can see it is broken off completely at one side, funnily enough, the handle release wasn't broken! lol.

As I said on the other thread Alex - you are very lucky to find one of these in working order - they are indeed a rare beast, and were made right at the start of the Purepower run way back in 1997 - that's 16 years ago, and they are still making the same vac now - but with none of the features of yours.

We look forward to seeing the finished article and the demo of it on youtube. I think this is your find of the year - the 1400S is a very desirable model to have, and certainly will be the most rare in the future years.

Look after it - there aren't many left of the 1997 models now.

I hope you manage to get one some day, they are really nice cleaners and don't look anywhere near as cheap as the ones even from 2000!
I reckon there will be another one for sale soon enough I am sure.

They do come up very occasionally, but its usually at the opposite end of the country and the seller wont post.

At least one member of VL now has a working example that will be preserved. I really don't know why they got rid of autosense, its such a nifty gadget - but they did, and this makes the ones that do exist more collectable.

I saw that Turbo 2 earlier today, I think it is a catalogue exclusive, it looks really nice but I could live without it, not to bothered :P
I messaged the seller to post it for me at my cost :) see what happenes when you plead? :P :)

but can you see what I mean about the ones you want always being in Kent or Cornwall, or the far north of Scotland?

How can you tell that that Purepower is not an autosense model? the green one looks like a U3120?

If that job lot was nearer to me I would have gone for it, as those are both early model purepowers

Well there for start there is not as much lettering on the bag door of the U3130 as there is on the U3141 and there is also no rather large S on the cleaner head and there was only one red autosense with S-Class.

You can tell that is not a U3330 because it has the lettering specs on the bag door which the U3330 doesn't and the U3330 has to big arrows and say edge to edge power cleaning, which that one cleary says Purepower in the centre wich the U3330 does not and that information tells me it is a first generation model especially because of the lettering specs on the bag door.

Yes Alex, I just watched your video on the U3330, and can see myself now that the one in the joblot is the base model from 1997 range. If they both work, they would be excellent for you to get, as you would then have nearly the whole first generation range

All you would need is the U3140.

How about asking dad for a trip down to Devon to get them then?
