Here we have my 1995 Hoover turbopower 2 U2462. She was in a bit of a sorry state but managed to get her back to beautiful.

I actually did this machine back in November 2025, but with Christmas round the corner and needing parts, she took bit of a back seat until now.

Didn’t need too much work, some cosmetic repairs as well as brushroll bearings servicing) and the usual consumables.

Really heavily scratched the hood and unfortunately most of the edge cleaning decal has worn away.

Royal appoint and serial plate. Dated January 1995 so it’s officially her 31st birthday month!
To date these, you take off the model number and the 4 numbers after that gives the year and month - 501 = decades 90s so 5 = 1995 01 is month. Hoover later changed the serial plates and how you date them when Candy bought them out in 1995 so mine was just before that.

looks like it had either been used without a bag or the bag came loose. Plus air freshener that still actually smelt and rather pleasant too.

Here we can see the blanking piece for where originally there used to be a piston bag indicator for the very early Turbopower 2’s, however Hoover very quickly changed this to the bag check light instead.

Not very often you find vacuum cleaners with the original sales sticker still attached, so I was very happy this one still had it.

Onto the strip down now. Upholstery tool is missing its little red lint picker and in typical fashion the heat from the motor has deformed the dusting brush bristles. I believe you can soak them in warm water and reshape however I haven’t tried this yet has keep forgetting.

I thought in my initial test run it sounded clogged…Lots of dog hair and absolute stunk. Looks as if something wet had been picked up and everything just stuck to it.

Now to flip her over, remove the sole plate, the very stretched belt, brushroll and undo the hood screws.

Picture of the damaged wheel and the rather creative fix from the previous owner, they used a lid.

More broken pieces, the previous owner had glued this part down, that explains why it had a bit of an awkward lean.

With the hood removed we can remove the chassis. Now we’re left with the main body of the machine. A rather manky post motor filter removed and binned.

Post motor filter removed and binned, this one is the carbon one but there is supposed to be a sponge like second filter ontop here.

Bag check light removed, inner skin, control panel, button and motor cover all removed.

It was only at this point I noticed the hose caddy was broken.

Someone was here before… scuff marks and a screw driver mark on the motor fan cases. So this motor has been serviced at some point in its life.

Motor, air ducting and motor supports simply lift out. Easier to remove than to place back in!
Internal cord also comes out, and placed to the side to work on later.

Wheels removed now. Need to be careful here as they’re held on with circlips and they can go flying half way across the room.

With some…gentle…persuasion, the very rusty manky and seized brushroll can be stripped. One of the plastic washers was all brittle and broke so needs replacing, same as the felt washer, looks like it got wet and wrapped in hair etc, also looks like the washer got too hot at one point and melted.

Turbopower brush rolls have a tendency to gather hair inside the cap.

Also noticed at this point that something had managed to wear a line around the brushroll.

During and after her nice hot lemon bath. To be fair the water wasn’t that bad with just the machine parts, it was the hose that made the bath water filthy.

All laid out to dry now.

Now with the parts drying time to start on the motor. To be honest, the motor and its bearings were fine and didn’t need servicing in my opinion, so left it alone.

Brushroll bearings were left to soak in some white spirits to remove all the old grease and crap. I would ideally have replaced these but finding them nowadays is hard.

Inner cable put back in before the inner skin goes back in. Motor, its supports and the air ducting all put back in then the cover goes back on.

Where the grill is, there is supposed to be black foam, (I’m assuming this was forgotten by whoever previously serviced it)

I didn’t have any to hand and forgot to order some but not to worry, if anything it might be a tiny bit louder and more carbon dust can escape but will be caught by the other filter.

New old stock genuine H18 bag fitted as well as new generic pre motor filters and a genuine new old stock post motor filter.

I had a spare cracked bag door that had the piston blanking piece sticker so I nabbed that and stuck it onto this one as it was missing.

Sales sticker survived the wash.

After pictures. All complete and ready for a nice easy life. I’m really happy how this machine turned out. This is my very first single speed Turbopower 2. I’ve only ever had Autosense models and I do have a huge soft spot for Turbopower 1s and 2s, and after stupidly selling my collection nearly 10 years ago, I am absolutely excited to use this machine again.

Forgot to mention at the top, that this was the very bottom of the line model as all it had was an on off switch and that’s your lot. Where as the Top of the line has Autosense and boost button.

And that’s it! All done and ready for a nice easy life after what appears to be bit of a rough one. I am still missing the little Hoover roundel on the handle but may eventually find one. I will post an after video/demonstration video here soon, whenever I manage to get time.IMG_2064.jpeg
