Last Week I won an auction for an Early Dyson DC01 on eBay...They are not hard to find currently, but they are getting rarer now, since Dyson stopped producing spare parts for this model in 2011! The DC01's are a bugger to find in really good condition, luckily, this one is in great shape.

When I received it, towards the end of last week, I was very pleased with the condition of it...There was no sun damage, (which is a common occurrence with early Dyson's) no broken plastic and it was generally pretty clean...However, the full "Alex treatment" was still in order!

Here are some photos of the machine before I began the restoration, it is a nice early example, this can be manifested by it having the original Dyson logo and the fixed sole plate, unlike the later DC01 models that had the current Dyson logo and a sole plate which pivoted with a cradle design.

Here is the base...

As you can see, the brushroll isn't designed all that great! It does a pretty good job though.

These early DC01's with the fixed sole plate perform pretty well, as they have better suction at the cleaning head and actually stick to the carpet, unlike the later DC01's with the cradle type sole plate that pivoted, it leaked a lot of suction on those type, I don't know why they changed it, this style works much better!

Last but not least, the tools...

The small tools can be used on the end of the wand, or, you can take the wand off and use them directly on the rubberised end of the hose, however, to do that, you first need to put the little adapter on, to enable the small tools to fit. The small tools are pretty well designed and do a good job. :)

After restoring it, here is the bin after a test run, you can see the Dual Cyclone Technology is actually really efficient and work really well.

You can see. the large debris, is collected in the first cyclone...

And...

The Very Fine particles are captured in the second (inner) cyclone, then the clean air exists the top of the cyclone and out of the machine, passing though the pre and post motor filters on its journey...Very simple and works perfectly!
