Regarding your 1986 Royal 880 (go to 4:08 mark), when you turn on the vacuum, with the belt on to drive the brush, does the motor sound as though the belt is going out (meaning, the belt is stretched to point of requiring replacement)? Why? A fresh new belt helps keep motor speed down when the revolving brush is on.
A new belt for your machine is part #1043260001 because the motor is 5.4 amps. 6 amp machines would use replacement belt #1044260001 for pre-1992 models (square-end brush rolls) and #1672260001 for post-1991 models (with the hex-end brush rolls).
