A new vacuum joins the collection! I just picked this up on Saturday when Goodwill had their half-off sale. I had not been to Goodwill for about 6 months prior to this and I was shocked that the vacuums were so cheap now. They had them all at $9.99, before they were all at about $19.99 to $25.99.

So this one was $9.99 and with the 50% off discount it came out to $4.99! I did not plug it in in the store or yet since bringing it home, so not sure how it sounds but that doesn't bother me as it will be getting a ground up restoration (hopefully by this summer) anyway.

The bag is packed solid as a rock and the entire time I was turning it over and manipulating it, white powder was spilling out. The age old enemy of vacuums....carpet perfume powder. The package of belts that came with the vacuum are OEM Eureka belts and it has a trademark of 1999 on the packaging, so that gives you an idea of when this vacuum was last touched.

I can not find much information on this model other than a newspaper ad, as well as there is very little photos or videos about it. It seems like most collectors have either not bothered with collecting this model, or it might be a rare model. Looking at ads from 1978 and 1977 it seems like Eureka did not bother giving this vacuum any proper name. Like how Nissan and Toyota called their trucks in the 1980s just "Pickup" or "Hardbody", Eureka just seems to have officially called it "Upright" in the advertisements of similar models.

Here is the photo of the vacuum when I first saw it in the store. Its' pal was a Hoover Windtunnel Bagless (U5750-906) which I did not get because I had just bought one off shopgoodwill.com earlier in the month for $40! But when I looked at the auction again I seen I had bought the DELUXE model, and this one here in the store was the basic model with no dirt sensor or other goodies. So I actually did not have it, but oh well. I can forget about it since I have the Deluxe model on the way.

Here's a closeup of the hood. Just a little bit of speckling of surface rust, probably sitting in a basement. Nothing major.

Here's a shot of the underside. It is very very clean under here, aside from the dust bomb of carpet powder. I do hope the motor is OK. The brushroll is painted wood.

This is likely the reason why they donated it. Either that or the belt snapped when Goodwill tested it. Good thing it came with a pack of 6 belts! The bag on the vacuum I do not think is original. The vacuum has a service shop sticker on it, so it was likely replaced at that point in time with a more heavy duty bag.

Here is the advertisement I found from the Alabama Journal from Montgomery, AL from Jan. 11, 1979 (need a membership to the website to unlock it). It sold for $68.86 at Wilson's, which adjusted for inflation comes out to $248.89 in 2020 dollars.

Wilson's was formerly known as the H. J. Wilson Co. It was in business from 1947 to 1985 when all of their 80 store locations were bought out by Service Merchandise and merged into Service Merchandise stores.

That's nice huskyvacs,

I like the yellow color and I really like the design of the headlight lens cover. I'm guessing 5 amps on the motor? Nice addition to your collection.
