I just saw this picture in the 1975 Christmas catalouge. I never knew uprights had a tool attachment on the front? Was Kenmore/Singer the only uprights that had it?

Yes, the Kenmore uprights did have them. The one I inherited had one, but the plate that attaches to the front of the machine that connects the hose was no where to be found. Also, the old hoover's and eureka's had bottom plates that locked in underneath the brush roll on the bottom plate for attachment use. Here's a picture of my Kenmore below.

was also the same blue machine with the woodgrgian and two speed in green, and Eureka, later Hoover Conertibles (plastic based mainley), and some of the first Hoover elites had tool convertiers the moutned on the front like that.....but to my knowledge, none others had a built in caddy or holder like that one in the page......

I just pulled out my manual, and I remembered that they showed this hose converter in it as well.(Outlined in red)There was the deluxe model, and the standard one that looks similar to the ones on the Hoover's and Eureka's. The one that would have come with mine was the deluxe one because I have the hose and some of the attachments for it.

Awkward

Tool use had to be awkward, considering the Kenmore's had to have the handle lowered to turn on the vacuum...did most Kenmore's have the power control like this?

It probably would have been awkward, especially when dragging it around. Im pretty sure that almost all of the twin fan models had the handle release on switch.
