1975 Royal Pony 401 Tank -- Bypassed Motor Switch?

On eBay, there is a 1975 Stark (Royal) Pony 401 tank vacuum. The owner says that when Stark's refurbished it about 5 years ago, while installing the new power cord they somehow bypassed the main motor switch in a way that the motor turns on simply when you plug it in.

The serial # on the unit reads 57FC60318 which translates to a mfg. date of June 1975.
