Cut off power cord???

Who in the HELL would do such a thing. I HOPE they used it to hang themself!!!!.....Bill in Az....
 
Gleaner Bar

The first fixed gleaner bar was as said on the 1205. I have the first model machine (my Mother's) bought on June 30, 1969, in Tacoma WA for $212.00 w/ PN. Machine still runs perfectly even now. I have all 3 style of hoses, 2 different wand styles and both styles of PN. FYI, 1st edition came with hose cord as well as blade slots for future hose style--something I could never get my Mom to get, rats!

Not a thing wrong with it - why was is thrown out?

...so that a desreving person such as myself would find it and give it a good home. LOL

Not of a mind to sit idle and since all it needed was a cord a new cord the Rainbow SE got! and a sponge bath with Mr Clean's Magic Eraser.

Did not have an SE til now but did have a caddy box with the SE sprayer, crevicetool, floorbrush and a measuring cup. Bottom of the waterpan is date stamped June 21 1991.

Last and likely least from the curb

Weird and cute 9 volt floor sweeper with 4 rotating brushes. I replaced the nicad battery pack battery bundle with 6 regular alkaline AAs. Runs fast & strong and really does effectively sweep stuff into the removable central bin.

Never have seen one of these and like it's whimsical design much better than the single brush battery sweepers. It's only 1 & 3/4" high and has a universal joint for the handle so it's very maneuverable, like for under the stove and fridge. The clear top case lifts off for access to clean the brushes.

What a bunch of nifty stuff... there isn't a Kenmore hose in there is there.. I'm still looking for a replacement for that white one down in my basement,, you know the one...it has the two prong male electric plugs that go into the canister.

That's a little swivel sweeper you got there.. Liquidation World was clearing those things out months ago for about $15.
 
Pete, shoot me a picture of the socket and hose end. I've unearthed a box stuffed with assorted 'those' types of good shape Kenmore hoses and the one you need may be in there.

The swivelsweeper is a toy novelty of course but just like those small crumb vacs - it does work to pick up the light stuff.

I've seen pictures of Rainbows before, but it hit me when looking at your pictures how wide that power nozzle is. Looks like it could do the whole room in one pass.

Since you got the Super J, I've been poking around on Kijiji looking for the white or yellow hose. Didn't find anything, but just as a curiosity, have a look at what this guy is selling. There IS a yellow hose in there, but its probably for the pictured AP200.

Oh, what a lovely sunny yellow AP200, woven hose and yellow wand, Bob!

Too bad my French is non-existant. Appalling for a Canadian boy who took 3 fruitless years of Highschool French in the 1960s with a Language Lab and everything before flunking out, I know. But I did paste it to a translation site and gather he is appealing to wholesalers and willing to sell piece by piece?

I forgot - another plush carpet remnant scored from the curb. It was rolled up so all I knew was that is was greenish and very bare feet friendly. There was no more there but it looked sizable enough. never know about stains or cutouts, of course.

Rolled it out in the attic and how appropriate! Clean as a whistle with no cuts, it is 8 feet by 6.5 feet and all one solid colour. But as shows in the photo it has a pattern of vines and grape leaves impressed (?) on the surface. Does not seem to be carved in. It's not printed. How do they do that? Is it surface burned or what?

Well, it's a lovely rectangle that goes nicely with the Attic's green & grape leaves theme and will fit perfectly in the notch of the dormer window. :-) I'd like to go back to that house and ask if they have more or where it came from.

I better get a move on - tomorrow adds two more shows (Cyrano and MacBeth) to the Tech, Dress 1 & 2 lineup that I work on the Mainstage and 6 others at the 3 other stages. A few 12 hour days there along with running West Side Story which is already in matinee previews. The next two weeks will be Happy Hell for Davy. :-)

Mat 29th to May 31st is Stratford's City Wide Treasure Hunt (free junk on the curb), then the massive Kiwanis Vintage Car Show on Sunday and then the Theatre's Gala Opening Week.

People do strange things that is for sure. After paying for what that Rainbow cost new one would think they would have kept it. Sure am happy for your find though Dave.

My french isn't good either, Dave. I can sometimes follow conversations, or something I'm reading, but I translated that ad, and it looks like he's willing to piece out the collection. Wouldn't it be great if the Stratford Treasure hunt turned up a nice Super J hose?
 
Hey all you Super J enthusiasts.....

Keep in mind when taking vacuum readings that starting with the Model G, Electrolux provided a "minimum motor cooling air duct". You can see it in this picture at the upper right-hand corner where the bag bottoms out. On the other side of this hole is a tube leading to the cord-winder where it would be vented to the atmosphere. I don't know how much difference covering this hole would make, but even with an air-tight hose, bag seal, front cover etc., there is still this hole. It's about a 1/8" diameter.

Very good point Rick, I wonder what difference it would make. I believe that the new Constellations have a hole inside as well and many members here plugged that one too.
 
Slaps forehead! Of course Rick, I had forgotten that 'safety feature' for when MiLadyMiLord just kept vacuuming with a full bag destroying her motor. LOL

As collectors and savour-ers of vintage machines we don't subject our precious art objects to such abusive neglect. That's why the 1/2" vacuum relief hole under my New Connie's upper handle mount is plugged up solid with a rubber grommet, as a hole that big definitely affects suction readings and flotation. I do the same to defeat that hole in any recent vacuum because, well, more IS more and exterior holes like this tend to whistle and hiss. :-)

The Electrolux hole is so small, muffled inside and part of the overall vacuum bag/valve/release system I don't think plugging it would have much effect...but of course I'm gonna try it...

When I've blocked mine off, I got about three extra inches of lift.
If you're trying to get a reading at the machine end, on the generic hoses you can buy an adapter to fit into the machine end of the hose, I use this part to take my suction ratings so their is little to no leakage.

Cool, Vernon, I'll check that out - plugging the hole with a grommet - and report my readings later. This is of course for a true maximum test bench suction draw, not the real world one where loose joint gaps in hoses or multi-part bag door fittings with worn latch plates can admit their own cumulative leaks. It's not like one would try vacuuming chores holding the vacuum in both hands with accessories directly attached to the intake port. How awkward! LOL The weak part of any vintage vacuum is a leaky vintage hose and that's why I have put thought and effort into perfecting the method for relining them with liquid latex. Haven't had one fail yet in 4 years. Solid vinyl hoses? Get out the coloured electrical tape...

It's niggling to the Nth degree but when I subject a new to me vacuum to the overhaul Spa Treatment I want them to perform at their very best. As I said, even at 64" I was initially surprised that the J didn't pull stronger and jumped to the conclusion there was a leak or obstruction in there somewhere. Again, spoiled by the Canadian 80 series Luxs that quietly pull 75 - 80" right out of the box... :-)

It is the free, fast & friendly exchange of information on this Forum that assured me the J is just fine as designed and I needn't get all ferklempt about it, other than tracking down a good hose to pair up with it. 64" is a decent number and doesn't make the J or the 1205 any less beautiful or useful in my eyes.

I have many contrivances and contraptions around here that there's never a problem adapting something to get a bag chamber reading off any vacuum, bypassing slots & holes and odd shapes of lntake ports. A 1 5/8" OD section of player piano bellows tubing pressed against the inner 1 1.2" D gasket serves in this case as an airtight seal. I could just as easily have put a smaller diameter rubber ball on the Vacuum Gauge tube.

I take it back about the Super J being less than powerful

Tonight was the night to test some Electroluxs from both sides of the border. Proves nothing is worth jumping to conclusions over and the vacuum readings say what they say.

I plugged the relief holes in both the Super J and the 1205, used the same new 4-ply bag and a tapered Dyson dusting brush end to get a tight seal on all the tests that follow.

First up - 1205 @ 68".
