So as some people will already know through Facebook, I picked this little bugger up from Manchester. While I have joked about picking up a vacuum and lugging it on several busses for several hours in the past, I never thought I would actually be doing it

So, here is a quick snap of her before her clean and rather long journey!

I will add more pictures when I'm back home.

Also before I forget (again) I got her from BHF (near Harpyrhey market)

Cute Emma,

and the UK has the safest electrical plugs there are. Shutters inside the mains outlet, released by the longer earth (ground) prong when inserted, allowing the mains to contact. If your fingers are touching the prongs, they are insulated half way along them.
Simply brilliant!!

UK plugs & sockets

...did used to be superior, indeed the very best quality sockets used to have shutters operated by the live an neutral pins of a UK plug, rather than the earth pin, as this prevented the user from opening the shutters manually to allow the connection of a European 2-pin plug. The cost of fitting plugs to appliances was considered prohibitive by so many manufactures, and whilst many major appliances had plugs fitted (likewise some small appliances too, depending on what the manufacturers mood was), it was all voluntary up until January 1995. After this time all appliances sold in the UK had to have fitted plugs, and the quality of said plugs has plummeted drastically.

Ok, I'm not trying nor wanting to start an argument, but are you trying to push my buttons over the subject as mentioned in a previous thread?

Ok so seeing how I'm home I decided to try out the lil old Las and cor blimey she sounds rough! Imagine an early beat up Tp1 w/ dry bearings etc.

She needs a bumper (which I knew she needed anyway) and a new switch. Oh and brush roll. Luckily I can *cough* borrow it off one of my other knackered Jr.

Thankfully there's no rips or tears in the bag.

Broken zip. I didn't notice this at the time but no bigge. I could always replace the zip but it would be a bit risky with the fabric being 42 years old. So in that case I will just thread a paper clip through the zipper as a make shift repair.

Now I'm back, let the refurb commence!

So after removing the handle,bag and fill tube I noticed that the fill tube was clogged. After removing the blockage I was left with this.

How on earth that got past the fan I shall never know!

After removing the bellows and inspecting them I noticed a tear. No worries as I have a spare.

I'm not sure how well it shows in the picture.

Inside the bag. Looks like someone didn't put the paper bag ln right! Or it ripped.

Motor out, suppressor removed and switch replaced. Although I did remove the suppressor before testing.

No wonder the poor Las sounded rough.

I don't have anymore pictures of the motor as it seemed pointless. The bearing are fully seized and gunked up. The commy has light threading,copper drag and some bar burning.

This machine has been serviced at one point as the brushes are generic.

And now into her nice hot "zesty" lemon bath.

And then onto the towel to drip dry.

Nope, I was not trying to get your goat. I am aware that the industrial revolution began in Manchester, and Andrew Carnegie was Scottish.
Juniors are cute vacuums.
Best take care of that bathtub mold. What is up with most British water taps?
Even when ours have separate handles for hot and cold, the water comes out of one faucet spout. It's like they were here, in the 1930's.

The whole bathroom (and kitchen) was fully refurbished in about 2005.

Motor and wheels all reattached. Plus the choc block glued in place to stop it from rattling around and being annoying ( just like me ;P )

After reassembly it's into the shed for a nice polish and waxing. My my, that sounds a touch kinky, eh?

The bag washed up quite nice to say it was done by hand. I will most likely bung iy in the washer one day to freshen it up some more.

I'm quite pleased with how well the cover plate shined up.
