But there's always voltage conversion and the like.

Actually Australia and England are on the same voltage 220-240. Its just a matter of getting a plug adapter and it will work.

it might work in the US but I would have to use either the Dryer outlet or the Stove outlet to run it

Well they said it worked well..but it was all rattling and smelling of burning.

Bearings shot I believe.

It -is- fixable, but it's still false advertising lol.

I haven't got nasty with the guy cuz I know him as a Vacuum "enthusiast"

Hey mate !
Yup Australia uses 240v so that wouldnt cause a problem . Have you contacted the seller on the stick vac ?. I know who it is as well and must admit im kinda suprised there was a problem - as it goes i nearly bid on that but decided against it in the end !

Also sounds like the bearings I would say it might be worth fixing but check to make sure.
