1966 Compact Electra C6

I'm so glad to have a Compact Electra with hassock! It even has all the ORIGINAL tools & paperwork too.

I already have the "Magic Disk" & Polish-Aire, it's with the other 23rd Anniv. C6, which is also complete but no ottoman.

The only thing missing is a Turbinette.

Does anyone have a Turbinette that I can have?

The vinyl is more or less an "ice" pattern in a deep green w/ ivory piping, lined in the finest faux cedar cardboard! My Compacts vintage is earlier than yours by a couple of years (according to a manual someone posted here)- '63-4? The lid construction differs from yours significantly as mine is a solid core- ridiculously, burdensomely heavy- and yours is "hollow" and framed. I'm assuming customer complaint was the reason for the re-design? I've only seen about five hassocks and they're all clad differently! I guess since the machine stayed mostly the same they had a bit of design fun with the hassocks!

Here's the works! Fabric hose, PN port on top (I don't have a PN), all tools accounted for. When I first saw the hassock in one of my thrift store hotspots I thought "Nice vinyl on that 50's toy box, I could store a lot of stuff in that!" Once I opened it and saw the treasure inside I considered what a clever idea it was for someone to use a toy box to store their vacuumm cleaner in! I had no idea it was a matched set! It included two bags of liners ("brand new"!), an extra chrome extension (that fits!) and an early Electrolux tool too! Plus she runs like a top!!!

In response to floor-a-matic; you said you were looking for a turbine power nozzel for your compact, well if I am not mistaken I don't think this model of compact ever came with a turbine tool it but I am not 100% sure thanks. Zach

What are the metal clips for & where do they go?

I just had a question about those Compact's that I was wondering if someone could answer. How come the pn receptacle is at the front of the machine instead of the back closer to the hose?

A few issues:

1. The hassock has a strange odor; I tried my best to clean it out & air it, but the odor still lingers inside.

2. The crevice & upholstery tools have shrunk at the hose end of the tools. Is there a way to correct this so I can use the tools?

3. The wand end of the hose needs a coupling; are they sold by itself?

Why do the Compact uphosltery & crevice tools shrink to the point where the hose handle and/or wand can't fit correctly? I've NEVER had any issues like this on other vintage vacs' tools, just the Compact's tools.

I finally found the upholstery tool's grille in sea green.

And I also found a good turbo brush (black) VERY quiet.

The only problem is getting the strange, musty odor out of the hassock. I sprinkled baking soda & it doesn't seem to work too well. Then I wiped the inside & outside with a rag moisteed with warm water, Clorox, & detergent. Again, I put more baking soda. Finally, I aired it out. The odor still there.

What can I do to get rid of the smell?

Did you try leaving a box of baking soda in the closed hassock? It may take a few days, but often the soda will soak up any odors.

I've had some success with wadded up newspaper in "aromatic" luggage, but that takes much longer.

Another trick that works is a cotton ball with pure vanilla extract soaked into it.  Put it in the hassock with the vanilla face up. 


 


Isn't the interior cedar? It looks as though it might be.

Interesting that you found an upholstery tool grille in sea green - that's a color I've never seen before.

Do you have any idea if it was the correct color for the turquoise tools? I have seen grilles in electric blue (gray tools), beige (clear/glitter tools) and clear (clear/glitter tools). But I've never known what color grille went with the turquoise tools, so this is very interesting to me.

To get rid of the smell inside the storage chest,, try spraying the inside of the storage chest very thoroughly with regular Lysol Spray and then leave the storage chest fully open, out in the bright sunlight, ALL day,, from early morning til night, as long as the sun is out. Move it around if you need to, as the sun moves, in order for the inside of the chest to get 100 % bright hot sunlight for as long as possible. If one day of sunlight dosent kill the smell, try it again and again.

I just picked up my childhood machine exactly like the one Al posted. It was my grandpas. He still uses 2 other compacts daily. The others are both C8s.

He has 3 of them. 1 c6, and 2 c8s. I used to call them "the green suckers" as kids. I didn't know about the gold C8 until a few years ago when I discovered it in its original box with all tools and manuals, as well as the power nozzle.


The C6 has the same power nozzle port near the switch like yours. I will always treasure this machine!

The ottoman is built with particle board type wood (what I call 'artificial wood') or faux wood.

The tools shrunk at the end where the hose connects, how can I get them to fit the wand/hose?

I also need the plastic coupling for the HANDLE end of the hose, the hose is just taped onto the wand.

The metal clips are designed to clamp onto the rug nozzle in order to make it glide more easily over thick shag carpet. Otherwise, the nozzle would just bog down. That's a very nice find!
