Hi all.

I have a 50s style kitchen and would love to have a real nice 1950s blender to go in it. Not very many vintage blenders here, so i figure it will have to come from the states. For some reason they just look better stateside than here which is why i am asking.

I know i can find one on ebay but i am not sure if it is 50s or not. The seller might say it is 50s and not know for sure. I have noticed other members on here collect small appliances so i would love to buy one from them before turning to ebay.

The beehive blenders look 50s but might not be as it seems to be a style that has been made for years.

I would love to have a salmon pink or light blue one with a glass jug and hopefully a cloth covered cord as that just adds the vintage touch.

I have a 110 volt transformer so it would work great here despite the voltage difference. It would only be used once in a while and on display the rest of the time as i would not want to wear it out.

Could you maybe post pics so i can see all the great examples out there??? I sure hope someone out there can help.

They both look great!! You just can't beat the 1950s style!! I used to live in Boca Raton. My mom still lives there. Nice to hear from someone in FLA.
 
Again, my landladys time warp home, 2 Oster bar blenders like that, like new! It really is like a walk back to the 50s to 70s, just pick a room! Her daughter says the couch is the same couch and the same spot in the room she courted on and she is 62
 
Vintage blenders

It is true that there are not many authentic 1950s blenders here as they were not that popular then, and mainly sold with table mixers like the Kenwood chef or Sunbeam Mixmaster. The main blender only would be the Kenmix. I do have to say that there are plenty of modern blenders which have a vintage look on ebay - as the above shows ....

Here's a vintage Waring Blendor (the company always spelled it this way) that is U.K.-spec, though made in America.

The Waring was the first blender - or liquidiser, in U.K. usage - created back in the 1930s. The "beehive" shape of the original Blendor continues to this day, though Waring has offered other shapes as well over the years.

The Blendor in the U.K. eBay auction appears to be from the '60s or '70s; the jar and its lid help date it. If this does not appeal, U.K.-spec Warings are available new on eBay and other stockists. The vintage one shown has the "toggle" switch used on the professional models; Blendors were used more by bartenders than housewives for many years.

I don't think I've ever seen a vintage blender with a cloth covered cord... none of mine have. . Cloth covered cords were used more with small appliances that heated, like toasters and irons. 
 
I think the Waring rocket ship blender is one of the coolest and they still make them, or at least they did up until not too long ago.

This is my Waring 702. I was told that it's from the forties, and if that's true it would be perfectly appropriate for a fifties kitchen as well. Regardless, I find the styling to be very appealing in a timeless sort of way. Parts are still available for these guys too, which helps a lot. So that's something to consider. At just about any given time there's a 702 for sale on eBay, so they're easy to find. Many are missing one or more of the black rubber covers for the four grips that hold the jar in place, but these are still available new, so don't let that scare you off.

By the way. I just thought I'd mention that since blenders were most often used with liquids their cords are just about always rubber. As the other member mentioned above, I don't think I've ever seen a blender with a cloth covered cord.

Cloth insulated cords were seen on radios,too-sometimes they were "resistence" cords-"curtain burners" as radio collectors called them.Used on lower cost radios to drop the line voltage for tube filaments.
For the Waring blenders-beleive the oldest ones used a spline driver like Oster-don't know the date-then Waring went to the "wagon whell" drive-of course the spline is more durable.Have one of those newer Waring "Rocket" blenders-got it on sale from a Linens&Things store that went out of business here.Also have a "Bar" blender like the other shown-except it has a white base-but same metal mixing jar.Bartenders liked the metal jars-kept the drinks cold-and won't break.Mine has a spline drive.Got it from the used pile at a restuarant supply store here.
 
I HAVE ONE NOW. CAN'T WAIT FOR IT TO ARRIVE!!! THE COLORS ARE GREAT AND IT LOOKS SO RETRO AND COOL. IT WILL LOOK GREAT NEXT TO MY CHROME AND PASTEL YELLOW TOASTER. I HOPE YOU ALL LIKE IT ALSO.

I HAVE SEEN PICS OF SOME OLD BLENDERS ON HERE SOMEWHERE IN THREADS THAT HAVE WHAT LOOKED LIKE CLOTH CORDS BUT NOT SURE. GARY.

IT IS GREAT TO SEE ALL THESE VINTAGE APPLIANCES BEING PRESERVED FOR THE FUTURE. NOT LIKE THE CHINESE GARBAGE MADE NOWADAYS.

I GUESS BACK IN THE DAY THESE ITEMS COST A LOT TO BUY SO THEY HAD TO LOOK THE PART AS THEY WERE DISPLAYED ON THE COUNTER FOR ALL TO SEE. NOW EVERY TOM,DICK AND HARRY HAS ONE AS ALL ARE CHEAP TO BUY.

EVERYTHING NOW HAS NO LOOKS APPEAL OR STYLE. JUST MADE FOR THE INTENDED PURPOSE THEN TO BE PLACED OUT OF SITE TILL NEEDED AGAIN.

NOT IN MY KITCHEN.

MY 1950S KENWOOD JUNIOR MIXER. THE CORD WAS STIFF AND INSIDE WIRES WERE BRITTLE SO I REPLACED IT.

YOU GUESSED IT!! A BLACK AND WHITE CLOTH CORD. IT REALLY MAKES THIS LITTLE MIXER LOOK THE BIZ!! AS SOON AS I GET ANOTHER CAMERA I SHALL POST PICS OF MY KITCHEN.

MY KITCHEN IS NOT DOWN TO THE FINEST DETAIL BUT LOOKS VINTAGE. MY JUNIOR PIC IN MY PROFILE SHOWS THE VAC IN KITCHEN. YOU CAN JUST SEE THE FRIDGE AND COOKER IN THAT PIC.

AS FAR AS MY MIXER GOES I HAVE NOT SEEN ANOTHER LIKE IT HERE. I THINK IT HAD A STAND AT ONE TIME AS THERE ARE LITTLE PEGS COMMING OUT OF THE BACK SIDES THAT WOULD HAVE ENABLED IT TO BE MOUNTED ON A STAND, PROBABLY BOUGHT SEPERATELY. I DO HOWEVER SEE BIG VERSIONS OF MIXER ON EBAY OFTEN.

I see you got the ice crusher and some mini jars. The Oster base and blades fit all standard canning jars, at least the N.American ones .  Long long ago there was a centrifugal juicer attachment as well... I have a pic of it somewhere
