I just came across this picture of the Holland Electro Toppy from Edgars collection so I thought I'd add it to this thread to show what sort of machine Holland Electro put out based on the Lewyt patents that they bought. Apparently these ran into the late 80's

I have a model 66, but it's only got the dolly and a couple of the attachments. I wish I had the hose and the rest of the attachments. I would love to have the Model 70 and 103. They look great.

I've always loved Lewyts, especially the "trash can" models. My grandmother has a 44 that hasn't been used in at least ten years....works like a charm, but missing the original hose.

Awesome! The Holland Electro is the vacuum we had when I was a child. I think my mother bought it in 1966 or thereabout.

Model 44 Lewyt

This is my model 44 Lewyt. It's similar to the model 40, with the exception of the rug nozzle (they added the comb-valve), the hose (they made the curved handle portion part of the hose instead of separate), and the top of the cleaner came OVER the rubber gasket instead of sitting inside the rubber gasket of the dirt container.

Wet/Dry Lewyt

Very Interesting. The model 40 Lewyt instruction manual suggested you use the sprayer to spray suds/water on the carpet, agitate it in with the bare floor tool, then suck it up with the vacuum. Empty before the water reaches the intake, less it spill out when disconnecting the hose...

But the motor is NOT a by-pass motor, the filter would be soaked, and to top it off the machine isn't grounded. Can you imagine the electric shock when touching the vacuum AND the sink at the same time?

Hey Tom:

Interesting - I had never seen that "use" for the Lewyt. I certainly wouldnt want to use it for picking up water. Another first for the 44 was it introduced the rubber seals on the wands and the clips on the wands and rug nozzle.

Nothing like UNSAFE recommendation on the use of that Lewyt machine!Imagine the LIABILITY if someone got electrocuted from following that advice in the Lewyt owners manual!!!Brazen folks at Lewyt!Those pages should be SHREDDED!

I love the line:

"No need to take your Lewyt apart - just pour the water from the dust bowl down the drain". So, after sucking up water with a Lewyt, just pick up the machine (don't bother unplugging it), and pour the dirty water into the sink. You can clean your rugs, and curl your hair, all at the same time.

@Hans: The electrocution thing couldn't have been good for Lewyt - and they had one of the worst rug tools EVER, in my opinion. The 'comb valve' was horrible. I used the Lewyt 44 for a few moments after taking the picture yesterday, and remembered exactly why I didn't care for using it.

I always remove the comb valve!! Remember the 120 I got from you in 1996, I use it still and it does well as long as that dumb comb is not in it!

Just managed to get the floor brush for the Model 40 today. Now all I need are the two straight wands and the black dusting brush. Anyone have spares?

And I'll bet if someone had gotten zapped from using the Lewyt carpet shampooing method, Health-Mor would not have been their only lawsuit! I have 3 of them myself, a 40, a 55, and a 90. Here's the 40, complete except for the instruction book.

And the 90. Again, the only original attachments I have are the hose, wands, and rug nozzle. The upholstery nozzle seen in the pic is Lewyt, but from a later model, and the dust brush is from a different vac altogether.

Was there an optional dolly for the Lewyt 40, 55 models? If there is no dolly, then how were they supposed to be moved around when cleaning? dragged on the floor or rug? or was the user expected to pick it up and move it all the time?

There was no dolly for the model 40 and 44. It was optional for the 55. The bottom of the dirt container had two 'runners' built into it, and it wasn't that difficult to pull around ON A CARPET. You had to pick it up on bare floors to move it or risk scratching the floor.
