HI all,

First of all, thank you all for your interest in my Hoover Special Model 60.

It is in beautiful shape and in working order.

Here are more photos for those of you that have emailed me for them.

I am checking on shipping cost also, for those that have inquired.

This is beauty and am excited for it to go to a good home.

I would also of course, like to get the best price I can for this piece, as all proceeds I get from the sale of this vacuum will go toward my childrens education fund, so I thank you for that.

I am asking $60, plus shipping, but have a bidding war right now, so please email me your best offer.

Thank you all, so excited to share this with you.
Cathy

I CANT FIGURE OUT WHY THEY MADE A SPECIAL OUT OF THE MODEL 60
THE MACHINE WAS 10 YEARS OLD AT THE MOST
AND BEING TOP OF THE LINE WHAT WAS IT TRADED IN FOR
P T BARNUM WAS RIGHT ABOUT THE BIRTHRATE OF THE GULIBLE
LOOKING AT IT I HAVE BETTER LOOKING MACHINES AS PART DONORS
YOYOUR MACHINE LOOKS LIKE A TRANSPLANTED 61
NOTE HANDLE AND HANDLE RELEASE PEDAL
I WOULD HAVE JUST PAID A FEW DOLLARS MORE AND GOT A REAL 61 NOTWANNA BE

Hoover Specials

Were refurbished by the Hoover company and sold as a lower priced model to the current model lineup. There wasn't necessarily any rhyme or reason to what machine was offered as a "special". I have an 825 that was rebuilt in 1951, a 725 that was rebuilt in 1947, and a model 150 that was rebuilt in 1953. These are kind of interesting as, in essence, they went through the Hoover factory two times. These machines may have been "ten years old at the time", but they were fully refurbished and overhauled by the company. It was for all intents and purposes a brand new cleaner when it was purchased...complete with a one year guarantee. This was BY NO MEANS a half assed vac shop rebuild.

It's certainly a shame that when Hoover rebuilt that model 60 in 1952, they removed the things that made the model 60 such a wonderful machine. The Handi-sac disposable bag is one thing that really made the model 60 so awesome. Also, the handle release pedal at your fingertip was another feature that made the model 60 unique. After being rebuilt, it's now just a hybrid. Very nice rebuild job, but they've removed the 'charm' and left just another vacuum cleaner. Pity.

Yes, it is a hybrid of sorts. The bag isn't too far out of line seeing as though a "conventional cloth bag" was an option Hoover offered from day one. As I'm sure you know, the Handisac was not a disposable bag, but one that could be emptied and reused many times. It is a shame that the handle was changed. I'm certain that was done to replace the handle grip that was prone to cracking, and the special square strain relief on the original cord. In the Hoover service guide it mentions the discontinuation of this part. I'm surprised you even took notice. You dismissed it as nothing more than a 61 before. While it is a hybrid, it's an extremely interesting hybrid.

The things that make it a model 60 are gone. It's just a model 61 now. And not even in all that great condition. Shame that Hoover felt they had to do that to rebuild them. The model 60, as originally supplied by Hoover, was an awesome machine.
