1939 Electrolux XXX on eBay

Here's a real find -- it's the second version of the Electrolux Model XXX, from 1939. Pretty rare and in very good condition. Original hose has been replaced but it has the pretty cool suction adjuster nozzle!

I can't hardly believe I had the only bid on this classic machine, but it seems it just didn't draw too much attention. Anyway, I'm curious, how can you tell the difference between the 1937 and the 1939 XXX? The differences between these and newer models I can tell, but these early ones are so subtle I can't really tell....

Steve, see link below. But shorter answer: The only two changes I am aware of are:

• The rear filter cover is different. Note the 1937 version has two crescent-shaped louvers above the blower port while the 1939 version does not.

• One the 1939 version I have, the leatherette is lighter in color, as it is with the one on eBay. The leatherette on my 1937 model is dark gray, almost charcoal. (Noting that the color of the leatherette and the intensity of the "veining" did vary pretty widely.) So I think it would be safe to say that that's when the leatherette was changed.

(n.b., I've always wondered who made the leatherette for Electrolux.)
