Hi everyone, new member here actually. I mostly collect Hoovers and anything related to them.
Thought I'd break the ice with my latest acquisition. What I have here (and judging by the serial number and the location of the model number) is a 1927 Hoover Model 700 That I purchased and restored this past weekend.
It was initially on craigslist for $90, so I played the waiting game for about 2 months, price gradually lowering. When the price dropped to $35 I asked the gentlemen if he'd take $20 for it, in the end without any hassle, I got the vacuum for $25.
Spent hours cleaning, polishing, sewing, oiling, and regreasing. It had been repaired in August of 1972 but I don't believe it was touched ever again since then. As I found that one of the bearing had locked up and spun inside the housing within the brushroll.
I got some before and after shots. Some were from the original ad and then my repair progress. I forgot to get some shots of me going through the motor..
It isn't 100% yet. Currently waiting on a new belt and brushes. Couldn't find anything for a hoover so I settled on some Kirby Heritage II brushes. I still need to work on getting some new brushroll brush inserts though..But for now it runs fine as it sits.
