1920's Eureka

hey gang, I had a phone call from a local gentleman. Who managed his Aunts 1920's Eureka upright. That he remembers
her using when he was a kid in the 1950's.
It has been in storage all of these years since her passing
in 1971.
He would like to see it go to a collector who would display
it, enjoy and show it proudly.
I took pictures just this past Friday. It runs like
a top and has very little sparking from the commentator bars
in the back of the motor.
His name is Ted Collins, lives here in the north side of columbus.
He wanted to know what it would be worth? After talking with
him and explaining the market (he has looked on Ebay). I left
him with the fact that any price between 25 - 75 would be fair.
So I believe he is open minded.

Norm, that Eureka is a Model 9 from the year 1923. I have one. It's actually got decent pick-up for a straight-suction upright with the brush-bar in place, as I see this one has. Stan had one too and used to rave about what a great machine it was.

Thanks For giving me an I D on it. Guess it's not a big interest vacuum with
the current members. Have NOT heard a word from anyone. Wish I was still
maintaining my my collection. It would have been a great addition. No place
to have it now. Hate to see it just fade away or end up on E bay !

I love these old eurekas. I have seen a few in local stores. There really isn't as much info out there as there is for, say, a hoover from the same era.


Is it just the picture, or was it painted green at some point in its life? It really adds to that kinda mysteriousness!

It's the pciture. the metal is sort of pitted like. So I'm assuming it would take some work to bring it back. Probably from dampness. but the motor is really amazing at how smooth and powerful it runs. Even still has the cloth cord on it.
So it would be a great piece for a collector who wanted an early representation for their Eurka collection.
I am not sure if it was this Model 9 or the 11 that made it's debue at the chicago
Worlds Fair. There was a lot of hoplaw and pictures taken in the day. Plus many sales people taking orders for one of these cleaners to be delievered to customers door steps. When they returned from their travels to the Exciting Chicago
worlds fair, in 192? something ?
