So, I have owned 3 broom vacs. One I have had since the early 1990's which is out to get serviced, another one from the mid 1990's which is gone (I have no idea what happened to it!) and I have another coming in the mail. This was the only vac that picked up stuff that others would not! So what do you folks know about these? I dont know much about them!

love my 2 twin boys

hey there,
While you have more practical experience than I do (or will have more very soon, owning three of those), I can only add that it never occured to me that they came to the shelves in two different versions: The bag pattern is different and some versions have a 1-row roller brush, while the other has a 2-row brush. Other than that they are the same (in America there must have been a blue version of it, but it never made it to Europe.)

I love that little bugger to pieces (using it for a quick make-over or when I am not in the mood for dragging around bulky units.) Loud as hell like saying: "hey I am a MEAN little machine!" and it loves eating shoestrings lying around in the hallway (as you may know yourself). ;-)

A never-give-away favourite of mine.

Recently Acquired IOne

I recently found one at a thrift store. It's the first one I have had in my collection. Always wanted one when they were new when I was a kid. They also came in a dark blue Royal Pro Series line.

The UK model had an adjustable handle with different carpet types written next to each handle setting. I was never able to understand how the handle height affected carpet pile. Can anyone explain?

Perhaps there was a rod inside the handle so the lower it got the more it pushed on a mechanism at the wheels ?

Were these popular in the UK Benny ? I'd love to own one but can't find one anywhere!

Hello. Do you happen to know why they had carpet types written against each setting of the handle? Because I could never see how it made any difference to the wheels.

I have one...

...that I have been using for years, and two more that I picked up for less than $5.00 at local thrift shops, as spares. I have cheap, low-pile carpets and runners in the mud room that this vac works very well on, and it so easy to use for quick clean-ups, picking up whatever the dog and I drag in.

It seems that the handle length assists in keeping the nozzle on the various carpets on the back stroke. Sounds strange, but that is my take on the machine. I am sure that someone here would have far more knowledge than I do and could really explain how the handle height design works.

Yes, I've owned one of those and it almost set the house on fire, but what does it have to do with the Broomy ?

Well, to answer your question on whether they were popular in the UK, you could have read what I posted on that thread. Clearly you haven't picked up on it:

Dirt Devil U.S products didn't hang around for very long. The only appliance that stayed put was the hand held version/mains corded. All other upright products from the proper U.S company left as quickly as they came. Therefore their models like the Eclipse and Broomy are very rare. Another one that is rare is the "Room Mate," a kind of sweeper, but mains powered with a cassette located in the front floor head a bit like Miele's D'Art but without a paper bag.

Sadly ALBA PLC paid the end to Dirt Devil U.S products replacing the products that went before with Chinese made tat. This, sadly included the Chinese built Hoover Turbopower 2/3 based DD 6102 series.

I bid on one on eBay yesterday

There is a red one and a blue one on eBay right now.  I bid on the red one, and was outbid.  Gonna try one more time, but don't want to pay a fortune for it.

I do have one and I like it... it is loud and not the most powerful thing in the world, but it is surprisingly powerful for what it is. I think it is cute. I found 2 bags for it at a thrift shop for 99 cents.... I already had two packages, but I figured I couldn't go wrong for that price.... Hope you continue to enjoy yours!

to tell you the truth.....

the pro was sold through vac shops, and were suppose to be a little better made then the red version that was sold in department stores. but in the Broom vac i see no difference then the color. but i was told that the Pro Series Can Vac did have one difference. mine has the Powerhead plug, i was told that the Pro series PN had metal wands instead of plastic wands....
