Hoover Steam Vac....

Hey guys, just wondering what you would do in this situation... I've had my Hoover Steam Vac for exactly two years (I bought it on my 26th birtday, and I'm turning 28 today) and I just developed a problem with one of the recovery tank latches. It is cracked and won't go all the way back in unless I force it. I am wondering how easy this part is to replace (how do I remove it?). Also, is the one that is on the same side of the power switch considered the left side or the right side? I know that the next time I go to take the recovery tank out, it will break off. Can I still use the steam vac without this, or is it something I should replace?

Here's a picture of the carpet that I cleaned for a friend when it broke. This girl hand't vacuumed in a year and I used my Kenmore Iridium to vacuum first.... the carpet was just filthy and my Iridium's bagless chamber is chock full.... it really did a good job.... I heard stuff going up the wands and hose the entire time I was using it!


You can actually see the a change in the shade of the carpet where I cleaned! I used Hoover solution (man that stuff is expensive) because I knew the floor was dirty going into it... I didn't think my normal vinegar and Oxiclean would have done a very good job.

That part is easy to replace and no it won't affect the performance of the machine.


I had the same model since early1999 and it lasted a long time but was replaced recently by a bissell pro heatx2 which I think is a better unit But thats my opinion.


 


I broke one of those clips myself by not been carfull , it took minutes to replace once hoover SA found one.


 


that clip only hold the tank in place when you are moving it about , the suction will hold it still while you use it if it breaks

Thanks Gareth... I enjoy your posts sand I'm glad you joined the forum.

I do have 2 identical Steam Vacs, so I will just switch to the other one for main use and just use this one for a back up or spare parts if needed.... good to know that the suction would hold the tank in if I decide not to fool with repairing it!

I often forget to even latch them, just takes longer to dump it. No difference, works fine.

Thanx Bobby , I'm really enjoying the forum to. My old steamvac was the green and beige one, it worked very hard over its 12 years and still workes ok but I found the proheat has more suction now. I had to replace the bearing and bush set up in the steam vac about 6 years ago as it got a bit noisy, at the begining of this years i found the brushes stopped spinning and try as I might to get them working they just didn't spin like they used to . We started stocking Bissell machines about 3 months ago so I decided to take one home.


 


My dad Owns a carpet cleaning company that I started and sold to him a few years ago , he has a truck mount and a few rug docters and a mytee but I think this little machine cleans better than all of them

Gareth, I can't imagine a Bissell working better than a Steam Vac, but I've never used that model! When I sold at Sears back in 02, there was no competition between the Bissells and Hoovers, but maybe they've improved since then!

You could be right, I also have a older pro heat and at that time the hoover ran circles around it , you don't get propper hoover here any more just some chineses sourced stuff they badge as hoover , not even tti, so I had nothing to compaire it to new , as I said my hoover is 12 years old so it stands to reason that the newer bissel would out clean it.


However this new proheat x2 out cleans my older bissell which never saw much work aswell. it is so much better than the old one.


If I clean the carpet with the old one and go over the carpet with the new one I can get almost a third more water out.


Its a trully awsome machine with its twin roller brushes, but I never got a chance to compare it to the latest hoovers.

Wow twin rollers.... like the Royal steam vac that so many vac shops were crazy about for a while. When I sold the Bissells at Sears, one thing I did like was that one model actually had a pass speed indicator that told you if you were pushing it too fast... many people push a steam vac like they do a vacuum! I know Bissell made a self propelled steam cleaner a few years ago, I always wanted to try that one out!

I've been happy with my 1999 Hoover Steam Vac until recently when it started leaking water from underneath. I don't know if its the pump going out (Its a new one) or if I need to put new solution tubes in?

If I can't stop it from leaking, I might go for the Dual V PowerMAX SpinScrub 50.

Our WalMart offers Hoover Dual V for rent; I don't know whether to buy or rent?

Dual V PowerMAX SpinScrub 50

Blew the Bissell Big Green, XXX Professional & Rug Doctor Mighty Pro out of the water! HIJUESU! My old 1970s shag carpet has NEVER been so clean!

If I cleaned carpets for a living (which I plan to do) I'm using the PowerMAX SpinScrub 50!

Did they fix the issue with the spray not working in the Bissels after one of two uses from clogging in the heating element? That's the reason I never got one. I thought that it might just be improper use but after reading reviews some were having the trouble of no spray even though they did flush the lines before storing. I wonder if (before storing) if you run hot water and vinegar through the machine to flush it out if that would prevent it. It seems somehow the heating element gets clogged

Pro-Heat vs. SpinScrub

That's why I'm not too fond of Bissell Pro-Heat due to the heating element being problem prone.

The Hoover SpinScrub hasn't given me a single problem for the 12+ yrs I've owned it (& still have it now)

Maybe the new pump is faulty? Mine's the model where the handle is upright, suction & spray are diverted to tools/hose F5881-900

We've had our Hoover Spin scrub for about 4 years now and still love it. I love that the brushes pop out so easily for cleaning. But I have found that for our purposes the Bissell cleaning products work better on our carpets than the Hoover stuff does, and it's a little cheaper too.

I picked up a Hoover spin scrub curbside in excellent shape awhile back, love it.

It poured water out on the floor from base on the middle/right side (looking forward at machine), turned out to be the "t" fitting on the hoses (where you push on the attachments). There was a valve type of assembly in the fitting towards the back that went. Something to check, especially if you used the attachments frequently.

Be warned, if you've never had one apart, although the part is fairly inexpensive it wasn't easy to get to by any means and involved quite a bit of dis assembly on my part.
