1205 Cord Rewinder Lubrication

Hi guys,

1. What electrically conductive lubrication do you guys use to lube the circular traces and the their contacts (on the cord reel re-winder)?

and

2. Do you guys lubricate the springs as well? What do you use on those?

Suggestion

The lubricant should not be anything flammable because the electric tracks could spark and ignite it.

Electrically conductive lubricant would be a terrible idea! It could bridge the connections. Thankfully most greases are not conductive, really. You could use silicone grease - it's generally used for electrical applications - but really, any old crap will do. I would probably use white lithium grease, it's thinner and very slippery, and usually what manufacturers use for similar mechanisms.

Personally I would lubricate the spring. A, it would prevent rust, and B, it reduces noise and wear when it rubs against itself.

And I wouldn't worry about flammability. If there's enough heat to catch the grease on fire, you've got MUCH bigger problems to worry about than what kind of grease you use. The appliance would likely be on fire long before the grease burned.

I'd use an aerosol-spray Switch Cleaner - to clean the tracks & contacts. It'll remove oxidation and dirt, reduce arcing and pitting in future, and noticeably improve conductivity.

A dry spray-on Silicone Lube (from bicycle/auto shops) will lubricate and protect the spring. Silicone lube leaves a virtually-dry but slippery layer.
