But it was in a teal color but it had the same labeling. I remember the “library quiet” on the label. It is a very nice sounding machine and also actually is easy to use and the attachments have very impressive suction. I got a later ,Odell from goodwill for one of my friends and it was nice too, but she decided to give it away or sell it at a neighborhood garage sale because eventually they were no longer in her house. I never asked what she did with it, but I know she got a Shark rocket after that.
Sharps I think were very nice machines back in the day. I may not be as crazy about them as I am with Panasonics and Kenmores but I definitely would've bought a Sharp as my next option to get if I were to pass up on a Panasonic or a Kenmore and if I wanted something similar to them. They may be made in Malaysia (which there's nothing wrong with that) but they definitely do clean better than Dyson which are also made in Malaysia and they even use Panasonic motors as well.
I remember the teal one in a Good Housekeeping magazine back then. I forget but it was a test they did of vacuums, it was the issue with Goldie Hawn on the front cover, 1999 ish.
If you look back to the 90's most of the brands had at least one model in the great amp race of that period. They all crossed the 12 amp finish line sooner or later.I still see them out there after 25-30 years so they must be pretty decent machines. I just wish they hadn't put those decals on the front like that. I don't think you can remove that without damaging the plastic. You see more 12 amp now because that's about as far as they can go without tripping circuit breakers, otherwise I'm sure they would have kept on climbing and you'd see 15 amp or higher! Nice machine, enjoy!
The National Electrical Code is the dictating factor
It states that no circuit may be continuously loaded to more than 80% of its ampacity, and 12 amps is 80% of 15 amps. So the 12 amps is a hard limit that the manufacturers have to abide by, considering that there are millions of 15-amp circuits in the USA into which the vacuums may be connected.
I have the commercial 9 amp version, it's a nice machine overall. I remember years ago on YouTube a collecter named clubcar98 showed a video of his Sharp EC-3328A upright vacuum that had 6 amps and it was one of the most quietest vacuums that I've ever heard before. Also another collector on YouTube Vacmasterthegreat (Used to be on VL) showed a video of his EC-4420 and that had 7.5 amps.
I remember some of Clubcars videos! One of them he showed off like 5 of his vacs, one of them was this Sharp, an old Elite Supreme, a Maxima, a Boss Superlite, but can't remember what the 5th was. I miss some of the old yt videos.
This was from what I remembered besides the Sharp. A green Hoover Elite Supreme which I do have. A green Eureka Powerline which was a hard covered Bravo II. A yellow Eureka The Boss Super Lite. A blue Dirt Devil Swivel Glide Vision which I do have but can't remember if his had a performance indicator or not, I don't think so. A green Panasonic I'm pretty sure was a MC-V5370. A red Dirt Devil Broom Vac. A blue Dirt Devil Purpose for Pets which I do have. A Oreck XL 100C I believe and a black XL2 Ultra which I do have. A Electrolux 1205. A black Bissell Powerforce bagged which I do have. And a turquoise/black Dirt Devil EnVision. I believe he showed off/smashed a wet dry vac or two but I don't remember. I definitely didn't remembered seeing a Eureka Maxima from his channel. There may have been more vacs but that's all I can think of.
Dang!!! Thats a good memory. Oddly enough I didnt remember the Bravo! I was only thinking of one video where it wasnt the whole collection. But I absolutely do remember the other vids on the Broom Vac, the DD Purpose. Dont remember the Panasonic but once again I believe it because it was definitely in another video that I probably didnt see. The XL100C I feel like I remember seeing!
Now come to think of it, I DO remember the Bravo in that video along with the Elite and the Superlite. I just can't remember what the other two or three from his collection were in the video. But I remember him having videos of alot of the ones you mentioned! Do you remember the exact video I'm talking about? I really miss old YouTube.
There was a green Panasonic I'm pretty sure was a MC-V5370 and a blue Dirt Devil Swivel Glide Vision I'm pretty sure didn't had the performance indicator.
I've had a few variations on a theme, the first model I had was a 12 amp. Dark blue, speed slider, and brush roll shut-off. Some people don't like the dual pulley brush roll but I thought it was pretty innovative that machine had the solid plastic handle and switch on the body. Currently I own a 10 amp commercial model; speed slider, metal handle with the switch, and the detachable hose. It's old and worn out but it's probably one of my best performing machines for my cleaning business. It's perfect for heavy jobs where I don't have to worry about clearing the carpet for objects that'd shatter the fan in my Oreck.
I also picked up one of the later models a couple of weeks ago, the Supercharged with the electronic Dirt Detective control. The dual hose with the diverter is handy for above floor stuff, and the electronic control is neat. This one is worn out too from age, but still runs just fine!
Sharp was a competitor for Panasonic and produced excellent machines for a long time. They made lots of models with different motors and features, and I still hope to stumble across a few more!
They took the Panasonic design even further. I was also impressed with the 2 spring loaded feet that popped out automatically to keep the machine stable for hose use.
Actually now something just kicked in, I think there was one more vacuum shown in that video. I seem to recall it was like a Bissell bagless but that one I don't remember much anymore.
I couldve SWORN it was something yellow, which is why I initially said Eureka Maxima. Could it have been a Hoover Tempo bagless??? It was one of those generic 2000s bagless units I THINK.
