“Royal” birthday present!

Hi everybody! In about 4 days it will be my 22nd birthday so last week I got myself a vintage Royal model 606 vacuum on eBay as my best offer of $69.99! The vacuum was from Austin,Tx and arrived at Dallas 2 days later! It works pretty good but the only problem is that it’s missing the red belt cap that was pictured on eBay. So I contacted the seller and he said he’ll look in the warehouse and hopefully it will arrive, it should’ve been on the vacuum on the first place. I also got a new lightbulb too and arrived today.

Everything on this vacuum is in really great shape! But it does need a polishing treatment of mothers!

This Royal takes type A bags. I’m guessing it’s actually the same thing as the Eureka type F&G bags right?

Here’s something I just noticed now! This was last serviced in a vacuum shop at Austin in May 1989.

Here’s the serial number plate. 606-32083. And since this has 350 watts, this was made either around 1966 or through 1971. Maybe someone can help me with the manufacturing date?

Another cool thing is that before I had this vacuum, my sister got me a deluxe tool set for Royal vacuums for Christmas! This is probably hard to find! So I told her I really want this badly!

The tool set has a hose adapter, hose attachment, 2 wands, crevice tool, dusting brush, upholstery nozzle, floor brush, and the instructions. The tool set will be used on future Royal vacuums I would love to get one day.

That's cool you bought this 606!

Here is what it looked like originally, back in 1969... what the serial number dates it to approximately.

Like all of Royal's upright models, there would be improvements throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Your 606 originally had a two-wire, thirty-five-foot long cord (no ground lead yet, as that would not show up until 1973).

The motor size grew to 4.5 amps in the spring of 1985, and then to 5.4 amps just six months later.

A replacement Adjust-O-Rite plate is part #2-080169-300. Here is one that seems to be in good shape:

The highest patent number is from 1969, with
others pending. So, 1970-71 possibly?

Nice vacuum. Bummer about the belt cap. If it was advertised as being there and the seller can't find it, he should refund you a few bucks so you can buy a replacement. Go ahead and do your homework so you know how much one should typically cost.

Another thing that might be wrong is that when the belt is disengaged, the fan makes a couple of scraping noise but I can email one of y’all a short video tomorrow when I get home from work and hopefully there’s a way to fix it without replacing. The fan sounds normal when the belt is on the fan pulley.

Certified International model 606 branded by Royal

Here is my model 606 Certified International branded by Royal. The original bag to this machine should have been a light blue cotton fabric , I believe. I do not believe that this had the blue commercial bag with the crown on it. This is one of my favorite models/ renditions of the Royal vacuum.

Your Certified 606... I believe that is a 1982 model if I am not mistaken (may I please have you read the date code and serial number? Example: G82-F-90141)

Yours is one of the last with the 3 amp motor; in the spring of 1985 the fan case changed to the angle-cut design and also had a new 4.5 amp motor, but by the fall of the same year, it was changed again to a 5.4 amp motor, and both the front and rear wheels were larger than before (2" front and 1-1/4" rear).

If I am looking correctly at that cord, I think it may be 50 feet long; it would be a replacement power cord on any Royal commercial machine made before 1984.

My Royal 303 Attachment Set

Took me years to find one... now I do, thanks to Jared (huskysteel)! The only tool missing is the 10" floor/wall brush (3-096682-200).
