If that's the case, that's very sad. The U1 was fantastic, and I can only hope Miele has something on-deck to replace it, as Americans love uprights. Would be a shame to see it leave the market.

What!? That's terrible news! How did you hear about this? I wonder if they have another upright planned for release soon? The U1 is one my favorite modern vacuums. If that's the case, that's VERY disappointing.

I love re-building classic Hoovers, and I make do with what I can, but a Hoover bearing grease gun would offer that extra level of assurance that any proud Hoover owner expects. If anyone is lucky-enough to have a spare, I'd eagerly take it off your hands. Thanks for your consideration!

Those bagged Eureka Smart Vacs were very aggressive, and good carpet cleaners, and they were pretty quiet too. At the time, I didn't think much of them (repaired a lot of them, the belt tensioner had problems), but looking back I can see why CR recommended them.

Thanks for sharing! That was interesting. My guess is that it was a combination of low initial sales, coupled with a high rate of returns. I can remember when that machine was in stores, and no one at the time taking it very seriously.

@luxlife I agree. I'd love to try one out. Hopefully they can iron out the kinks, and have another great evolutionary product. Of course I will have to wait until I can get one at a reasonable price. I think a lot of the new features on it look great.

That's gotta hurt! As least they're addressing it now, fairly early in its life cycle, rather than ignore it for years. Still, over 40,000 units that will need to be repaired... Up to this point Rainbow's have seemed fairly reliable, and I see lots of them on the used market.

I'd start with replacing that other belt. I hope it does the trick!

The Self-Propelled Windtunnel uses two belts. Under regular use, replacing both belts every year or so will make a huge difference in how it cleans, as the worn belts will cause the brushroll to slow down easily. Did you replace both belts?

While I'm not sure it will remedy the screen issue, I'd start with a battery. They're pretty cheap these days. If you can get it working, those old Neatos clean pretty well!

I think the machine looks nice, and looking at it closer, distinctly Miele, which is promising. I'm bothered though that in the center of the dirt cup is a pleated filter surrounded by a mesh screen. It's a shame they couldn't have shoe-horned at least a Blizzard, or Shark-style filtration...
